They're not to heavy but not too light, and really easy to clean, store, etc. Review: Smash Burger Perfection! - First off, I don't own a camp chef cooker. Yet I wanted to be able to have a good sized flat grill for making smash burgers on my 2 burner Charbroil gas grill. ( If your not familiar with smash burgers they require a HOT grill and one that stays hot!) Looking at the dimensions and ratings on this grill, I figured it would work. Glad I took the chance as it is very nicely made, fits well and works perfectly! I just set it on the gas grill, turn on the burners , drop the cover and come back in 10 min when the internal temp of the grill is around 300 deg f. This puts ALLOT of heat into this grill top that allows me to cook 4, 5" patties at once and still char the other side when I flip them. It also toasts buns to perfection when done. ( I was unable to keep a cast iron grill that hot on my kitchen stove top, BTW) I'm sure this grill top will get used for a bunch of things going forward but I'm in Smash burger heaven at the moment. Looking forward, it looks like this grill ( which has an actual cooking surface of 11.5x 15" BTW) fits nicely over 1/2 my kitchen range top (and covering 3 burners.) Get an electric griddle. **Q: To you users, how does the grease (eg. hamburgers) come off the Iron Grill?** A: Wipe away excess grease. If it's well seasoned (the more you use it the better it is) you should be able to wipe it clean. I use cheese cloth. NO soap. If you have to "clean" or scrub it... invest in a REALLY good smooth cast iron chainmail scrubber. A little warm water, shuffle/scrub lightly and any stuck on or burnt residue comes right off without damaging your seasoning. **Q: when ordering the grill/griddle is it a 2pc set** A: No, it's a one piece item. It has a flat griddle on one side and 'corrugated' grill surface on the other side. The flat side is for eggs, pancakes, etc and the 'grill' side is for hamburgers, hot dogs, steaks, chicken, etc. **Q: what is the maximum temperature this grill can be used at ?** A: Camp Chef would not recommend using the Pre-Seasoned Cast Iron Griddle over 500 degrees. Did not come seasoned so I cleaned and seasoned myself on the grill. I will cook on it tomorrow and update my review on how it worked with Smashburgers. Update: The first picture is what it looks like out of the box. The second Is what it looked like after I cooked eggs and bacon on it. Stained because it wasn’t ready to be cooked on. The skillet definitely needs to be well seasoned before your first use. I spread Crisco all over both sides of mine and baked it in the oven at 350Β° for one hour. The last picture shows after seasoned. Worked great for burgers. Beware if you want to use this on your existing gas burners it isn’t quite long enough for both of mine and heated unevenly.
