I feel safer in my home now.
When I started to look on the market for a home security camera system this one was not on any of the top 10 list. A coworker told me about it and said they loved it. I looked online and started to look at the base model to save money. After doing hours on hours of research I found out that you can not buy a camera system on a budget. Once I came to that conclusion I went big. I started watching YouTube videos on different types of camera quality like 1080p-light. Its a joke don't buy that. Its less then 720p at 4fps. But I'm not going to get into all that. The 8-4k camera setup is perfect for my property. The cameras have a much wider angle the i anticipated and therefore only needed two in the actual house. The living room and kitchen. I did finally place one in the pantry to catch my teenager from eating all the junk food. Over all the install and set up are pretty easy. I do recommend printing out the 85 page full system user guide for the tips and tricks on picking the location of each camera. I have two that I need to move a few inches due to the inferred reflecting off the eves and washing out the night vision. And the 60 foot cables were plenty long enough to go from the center on my home and out to the edges. I went into the wall and up to the attic and out. One mistake I made was running the cables before attaching them to the camera first. This created two problems. The first: I could reach the cameras that were under the eves on the out side of the house from the very short attic. The second: I ran 6 of the 8 cables the wrong direction. A simple tip, connect the cables to the cameras and fish them in the attic and use a loge pole with a hook at the end to aid in retrieval. A few other problems I had had nothing going to do with product it self. Just not knowing how to do this and not having adequate help was a stresser. For the hub, its about the size of a large Blu-ray player and it is a bit loud. It won't interfere with day to day life but in a quiet room you will notice the hum. The Program: it is at first complicated. So much to see and click on and so many options for your unique situation. Again, I can't stress enough to read the full user manual before you start anything. And a few more things to say before I'm done. The App is good. I wish that I could do a few more system adjustments with the app but for the most part I like it. I can see the live feed just fine and see recordings when ever I need to. The app only plays back recordings in a lower video quality. And the pest part for me is being able to see all 8 cameras at once on 60in TV in 4k quality. Its almost better then actually going outside to see my yard. The photos are screen shots from the app on my phone. I am very pleased with this perches and definitely will recommend it.

Good Product with Added Support Lines and Electrician Tape
I placed five stars here as in comparison to other products available in this price range, this is a pretty good product. To be completely candid...the various animals like to eat this insulation off the wires... I was surprised to see more than two species chewing on this wire insulation. Installed fifteen feet above the ground along a fence extension, these are chewed all the way along going out many dozens of feet to the farthest cameras. When wrapped in an electricians' tape, those leads are fine and show no problems. So, I seal them in external electrician's tape. I have four cameras operating normally. Two cameras operate but are flashing (presumed to be failing)...have to check along the lines to see if they were chewed away...very susceptible to moisture...must seal all the way along the line with tape. One camera has gone out. I have not connected the furthest camera...just under 90' away (wire cable support line nearly finished). I will get to it...on the schedule...

Swan
This is my second set of Swan which is a gift. I have my first set now for over 3 years. The camera's work great. The only problems! I have had is: the camera wire goes only one way so make sure the male and female end is correct before running the wires. These camera only mount on the side cannot roof mounted it. The camera's logo has to be upright and the camera only moves in one direction downward, so if logo is upside down camera's are not made to move downward. Over time the power plug will fail and will have to be replaced. The cameras, the wire, the box everything has lasted over 3 years now. However the box has a hard drive..... The set up menu from the box on these camera is very much the same as my camera's 3 years ago. Personally I love these camera's. You can see bad weather, But If Big Foot is outside making sound.... I thought about a camera under the bed. lol i enjoy watching the animals at night and day. The camera will not see license plates, there is a very small zoom. My TV is 1080p so great picture. I have seen the garbage man crush a Paid Can because he was lazy, I have seen people getting into cars. Someone hit the car on the road. unloading groceries someone just at the right time pulled up and jumped out of the car checking door handles and ran off with my winter gloves. As far as identifying people it can be difficult. The camera's help to give you a piece of mind and to see what happen after the fact or what is happening. For me I'm happy with my Swan Camera's. The camera's got motion detection so you can scan over 12 hour periods fast to help zoom into a time. It is easy to clip a video and copy to usb. You can put video in MP4 or AVI format but for some reason its got some kind format (codec), its MP4 but my player will not play it and VLC Media Player will play it.

Great buy.
Picture is very good, location is key. Place cam in well lit area and the picture looks great. At night night vision picks up everything, just dont put close to a light source or will flood the image. I really wish i had chosen the 8 channel vs the 4. 8 channel gives room to expand later, and you will. I do. I am learning this works well as a record 24/7 and get a cheap wifi cam for alerts & notification.

Good clarity/ Definite pros and cons over wireless
Super clear and great zoom. sees pretty clear at night. Some of the many onscreen controls are confusing. There are good and bad things on a fully wired system. There is no wifi lagtime for the main monitor at all. There is a short lagtime on my phone. You have to have a separate mouse to use for the tv which is not a big deal. The amount of wires is a problem. I havent figured out quite what I am going to do to hide them yet. Plus side is I don't have to ever change batteries but it is a bit more expensive to install. I think this has 2 way sound but I have not used it yet . Overall I still think wired is more reliable in the long run.

Extension requires M-M adaptor for video. Why?
I needed 130 foot coax between house and shed. Since additional cameras (#7 and #8) on DVR8-4580V came with 60’ coax, I decided to opt for adding the 100 foot extension vice throwing the two 60 foot out and buying two custom made 130 foot cables. As one would expect, the power wire came with M-F ends for good reliable contact. For some reason, the BNC for the video came with F-F along with a M-M adaptor to connect the two pieces to get to 160 feet. No problem getting both power and video over that distance, but the video connection was very unreliable and I had to go to great lengths with electrical tape to keep the connection tight. I wish the video BNC extension wire came with M-F as well, same as the power. Note: a previous reviewer stated the power couldn’t go that far and he had to supply the power at the camera. My original 6-camera system came with 2 power adapters: a 4-1 and a 2-1. All worked fine with provided 60 foot wires. My two add-on cameras (to make 8 total) each came with 1-1 adapters, which had no problem getting power over the 160 feet. I suspect if you tried to push that distance with the 4-1 adapter or perhaps even the 2-1 you might have problems, as the previous reviewer reported, due to attenuation. To be fair, the Swann Tech Support recommended upfront during my research that I buy custom cables vice using the extension, so they are aware of the issues. But, as a matter of principle I just couldn’t trash the two 60 foot cables and then spend additional for two replacement cables. In retrospect, I should have! But, system with all 8 cameras has performed well for 6-months, after the initial 6 was in use for over a year. Moral of the story: you get what you pay for. Great economical system, but you might want to beef up the connections depending upon your application. By the way, Swann Tech Support has been great!
