A: No, they do not separate!

**Q: How sturdy is this? i have 3 boys 2,4 and 6 and they are complete "boys"  i worry about them breaking the top down on the bottom**

This was an awesome bed for my grand kids. They Love it! The bed took about 2 hours to assemble with 2 handymen. My only complaint it the order fromnthe stained would loomed invthe room for about a week.
