Am by no means a fitness geek, starting exercise after years of neglect. So with this item i started on low setting , mainly 6-8 on the dial for the first month or soo. After a few month of training my strength got better through other means and regular exercise, eventually turning this up to 12-14 on the dial, and after a few weeks on this setting the chrome bars started to show strain. And this morning it failed, snapping a bolt. So my advise for anyone thinking of getting one. The dial my show up to 20, but it will never be able to cope with regular use beyond 12, without it stressing the steel and WILL eventually fail. Am by no means heavy handed, i take my time in exercise. So now i know to avoid these things. there a gimmick.
