SMOOTHERPRO Solid Brass Bolt Action Pen with Tungsten Part Heavy Duty for Gift Business Office EDC Pocket Color Bronze (BTA972)

I have had this pen with me since April 2021. At least for the pen I received, the parker-style ink cartridge it came with was scratchy, however upon replacing it with the complementary refill(which I initially assumed to be just as faulty) also included in the package, I was pleasantly surprised to find it wrote very smoothly. So nothing wrong with the ink, if anything it is very high quality and does what it is supposed to! Knowing that the pen is brass, it is somewhat heavy and I cannot write with it for longer than a quarter hour, but the pen is functional and my hand strength isn't ideal anyway. The pen also has a brass smell, although it seems to fade and I personally don't mind it. The bolt, tail cap, and clip are a little loose and do screw out a bit on their own, although smootherpro did already advise applying loctite to fix this. This has not been a problem for me, I have not seen them come out completely on their own. The pen is very well made, nothing significant enough to take off a star.

Love the heavy weight on this pen, not to mention the material and craftsmanship. The bolt action mechanism has not failed on daily use. Writing is very smooth and effortless for me; I attribute it to the weight. Not a pen for small hands, firm grip is a must.

Nice pen with bolt action, very sturdy and no problems so far. Becareful when using bolt to hide the point, area there can be a bit rough. Other wise solid overall!

I got this as a Christmas gift then got it confiscated at the airport because of the back end is designed to break windows. So, I bought myself another one. It helps me with creative writing by keeping my hands busy while I take pauses to write. All it really needs is a bit of Loctite on the bolt screw to keep it from falling and taking the bolt apart. I like the weighted pen feel on my hands and this pen is like no other. It is very strong, nice color, and fun to use. Buy it if you do journaling, write for creativity, but whatever you do, don't lend it out. You will never get it back.

Was very surprised at the solid construction and feel to the pen. I’ve used the pen everyday since and there is no regret. The weight takes some getting used to but once you do, regular pens feel like they will just fly from your hand. And of course, getting good ink is another matter but there are enough brands out there to suffice. Worth the buy.

Yep, this pen is amazing. I love the weight. I love the action. I do not love the exploding ink cartridge. I used the replacement cartridge and it ran out of ink quickly. Yep, it exploded inside also. Not the best way to use a pen.

A good solid pen made of brass material. Inside it is compatible with Parker Ballpoint Pen refills that come in a variety of colored inks, so if you don't like black ink you have a variety to choose from. It is comfortable in the hand, with the scrolling cut on the side made for a right-handed person. This is a pen made for signing; not a pen for writing a long thesis, as I think the weight would get to your hand after a while.

I purchased several different Smootherpro pens as groomsmen gifts and actually liked them so much I had to get one for myself. I've tried several other pens for EDC over the years and this is by far my favorite. It feels good in the hand, writes well, refills are easy, and I get lots of compliments. Highly recommend, AMAZING value for the money

A bit heavy, no doubt the heaviest from my pen collection of mostly fountain pens. But the weight is well balanced and actually helps with the flow of cursive writing. Solid heavy duty brass body with a glass breaker butt (Not sure when I'll ever use that part). The spring mechanism to push the ball point out is always quite smooth. The pocket clip seems durable as well. Overall an excellent buy, and I'm very happy with it. The brass isn't shiny, so it looks pretty good as it is, But l think I might just use some egg whites to oxidize the brass a bit and give it more character.

I am a heavy-duty mechanic in northern Alberta and I wanted a good quality pen as I write daily both inside the shop and outside in all weather conditions. I also bought the Fisher pressurized ink cartridge for it, because regular cartridges stop working at about -25 deg C and won't write upside down for long either. This combination has worked perfectly for my needs for two and a half years. I like heavy pens, this fits in my hand well. I especially love the reaction I get when someone borrows my pen, "Wow that's a heavy pen!!" A couple of notes: I like the o-ring that keeps the tip for replacing the ink cartridge from loosening, which is a great design. The knob for extending the cartridge comes loose and requires a drop of blue Loctite. The Carbide tip can come loose as well, this determines the position of the pocket clip, this is critical to have it in the correct orientation so it will easily fit in the pen pocket of my coveralls, if it isn't correct the knob catches as you try to put your pen in the pocket, ha, fussy, I know!! I just hold the pen tight with a cloth to protect the finish and use the lanyard holder hole with a pick to tighten it firmly. I bought the 'aged' or darker version of the pen, I needn't of bothered, it is solid brass and polished up to a nice bright shine. I will attach a picture once I am back on shift at work.

This pen is nothing short of impressive! It demands your attention, appeases your itch to hold something super satisfying to hold with the super smooth and perfectly ergonomic smooth tip where you hold it. All the way to the textured spirals that actually stick out more than photos could ever give it credit for. It's truly a comfortable pen to hold! It comes with 2 identical ink inserts total which will last me forever but was a nice touch! The base where the super fun bolt action is located, at the very tip is a self defence point on it that would deter anyone in quite a hurry. It also is very effective for opening packages and boxes so this pen makes a great EDC addition. The only thing that wouldn't quite fit the EDC portion of this review is the bolt action end, is quite weighty! It's not just a self defense implement but you can also break windows with it. But the weight can be a deterrent if you are looking for something light. I actually prefer the extra weight because it makes my writing so smooth!

I bought this for my wife. Ive seen complaints about it being heavy BUT considering that its solid brass with a tungsten tip. I expected weight. Now my wifes petite and she hasnt complained. Still on the original ink (and it comes with extra) Havent tested the glass breaker BUT it feels good and sturdy. Good for the price
