Good book, bad shipping
The book is amazing, however it looks like someone threw it around a bit before packaging to ship. The corner of the book was crushed up with a few pages partially torn. At least it was still readable I guess.

Thoroughly enjoyed A History of Wales.
I really enjoy history. This book helped me understand what Wales had been though as a people and a country, Helped me learn about my ancestors and my geneology. The author kept my interest with his style of writing.

Hard for an American to read.
Bought the book to get in touch with my Welch heritage. Apart from being a long kind of dry history book, which I expected, the big problem is that it is specifically written for the Welsh reader. My understanding is that it was originally written in Welsh and this edition is just a direct English translation of the Welsh version. I felt like the author expects the reader to have a decent hold on elementary Welsh history and geography already. As an American, I don't have that background and as a result I found it to be a difficult read.

As good as Wales in all ways
Although I am English,I lived in Wales for four years and have lots of friends there. I lived in the Rhondda'Valleys', and found the place and the people were first class. I think you have to go live in a place to know it,and not listen to veiws people have! that have never been there. I can say I enjoyed every minute of it,and at times I wish I had stayed there. I gave my copy of this book to a friend of mine who was moving to the USA,and have just got myself another copy from Amazon. It doesn't surprise me that this book has nothing but five star reviews',and I am not going to change that,in fact I would give it ten stars if I could. It's a book that I am proud to own,-Proud,like Wales and the people that live in it-. It's not a book that you can read in a day. But then again Wales was not built in a day. A bit like Rome eh?. So if you want to know about Wales, this is the book to answer all your questions.

found in wales, bought @ home
Been to Wales this summer and loved it! I discovered this book in a remote castle-shop but decided to check at home if there were any better books about welsh history. (My already stuffed suitcase was grateful. ;-) I found out that there aren't all that many, so I sticked to this one (very cheap 'cause a little used) and am very happy. John Davies writes well, with lots of infomation but not overwhelmingly so. The book is easy to read and just about all I wanted.

Excellent Insights into the uniqueness of Wales
This is an authoritative account of the history of my country of birth. Sometimes difficult and challenging reading but comprehensive and satisfying.

Une très bonne introduction a l'histoire du Pays de Galle.
Ce livre couvre une grande période, et ne rentre donc pas dans les détails. Néanmoins il permet d'avoir une vision général sur l'histoire Galloise (ce que je cherchais).
