AquaIllumination Prime Tank Mount, Black

So short and sweet before I get into my small rant. It is very sturdy, easily adjustable and much better than the flexible arm I have on my other aquarium. This is a new aquarium for a sexy shrimp and some corals and just put it together. Now for my rant. There are no instructions and everyone I see has the arm upside down, including the picture in the product. This was definitely built by an engineer for engineers. If you turn the arm upside down, it allows for a) easy adjustment as the screws are on top, b) the cord fits in the slot and there is no binding. It also puts the cord immediately on the bottom of the arm to help "hide" it. My only other complaint is that it should come with some small black zip-ties to keep the cord tight to the mount. I will add pictures later.

I like it, it works well with my AI Prime in my 5 gallon nano aquarium as well as in my 20 gallon nano tank. The quality is good, so far the paint still in great condition regards the salt that stick on it from the evaporation of the water in my aquarium. The material is a premium quality, It can be easily assembled as well as adjusted. I recommend it, for nano aquariums or normal aquarium size. It is worth the prize. =)

I wasn't going to write a review on this product but after reading SO many bad reviews and even considering not purchasing the AI prime because of it, I have to give my 2 cents. From opening the package, to attaching the light, and then mounting it to my tank, it took me no more than 5 mins to do so and that's with watching a short instruction video they recommend, and adjustments. The disclaimer on the plastic bag clearly states to not over tighten. This can not be stressed enough. A allen wrench is included with the hardware but it doesn't take much to secure the screws. If you watch the video, it also states that a small gap is normal between the spacers, which I think the majority of the bad reviewers failed to comprehend. Whether the construction of the mount is fragile to the parts being cheap, regardless, if you simply follow the one instruction provided, you will have a clean, sturdy, mounted led over your tank like I do in no time. Now I'm not a engineer and I like consider myself pretty handy when it comes to putting things together, but instructions, no instructions, this mount could not be any easier to set up.

I have read some reviews that this mount is weak and the light drops downward. I did not have this problem but I modified the hardware slightly. I bought two mounts and tried a few different things. First, I took the horizontal brace and rotated it 180 degrees - meaning the 90 degree bend on the end is pointing up. I put the black washer in backwards so the slight curve was towards the light and then screwed in the ball screw all the way and its stays nicely - but doing it this way means you cannot attach the other two screws and bracket (which it does not need anyhow) The second mount I left all the screws as they recommend but I still rotated the brace 180 degrees and it too stays perfectly level and has not dropped down in over a week. I suspect that other uses put in the washer the wrong way - its quite subtle. Positioned correctly, the ball screw is seated deeper and this allows the other two screws to tighten down and lock it in.

I had to order this to mount my new AI Prime light to the BioCube 14 I have. It took longer than expected to arrive, but only a couple of days. Build quality is good and all parts fit together nicely. It took me a few minutes to figure out the assembly as NO instructions are provided. I have seen in other reviews that the cable is getting damaged from where it goes through the hole. I examined and tried two different ways to thread the power cable through the holes and found if installed one way, yes the cable is pinched. But the way I have it, it has no issue of damage... unless it falls in the tank. Overall, a must buy to mount the AI Prime light because no mounting option is provided.

This is a much better option than the gooseneck mount. Other reviews complain about the cord was being spliced where the mount attaches to the light but I did not experience those issues. Just keep everything lightly finger tight and be aware of where the cord is at when tightening so you don't pinch anything. Overall I like the look of the mount and would definitely choose this over the gooseneck option

The bracket has a ball joint so the light can be moved freely. Great if you want to clean the light, for instance. Unfortunately its placement is such that when you move the light more than about 1/8 of a turn, the sharp edge of the bracket slices into the cable. If you put the bracket the other way up, the cable will fit nicely into a slot, but the slot is so small that you can't adjust the light very much without pressing the cable into more sharp metal edges. I grabbed a file and smoothed the cutting edge, so if I move the light the cable will just be pushed out of the way. $30 for a mounting bracket is very expensive if - when used as advertised - it beaks your light. This could be fixed with design changes on the bracket allowing the cable to move freely, or by a change on the light, moving the cable away from the mount point. Other than breaking my light, it works well. But now I have to get a light replaced.

Screw for aquarium support didn't really go in well from the front. I took out the screw and tried from the back of the bracket, I was able to thread it all the way through. Might of been a bit of debris on the threads. If you have the same issue as me try what I suggested saves you time and perhaps breakage.
