Shockingly Good… Like “Why Am I Eating a 1950s Bomb Shelter Meal?” Good
I bought this 12‑pack fully expecting regret, heartburn, and maybe a mild spiritual crisis. Instead, these little Hormel beef tamales turned out to be the most dependable comfort food in my pantry. They come wrapped in paper like tiny edible Christmas presents, and once you steam them, they slide out looking exactly like something your grandpa would’ve eaten during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Flavor? Surprisingly solid. Not gourmet, not fancy — just that classic “I’m hungry and don’t want to think” taste. The sauce is basically nostalgia in a can. I’ve eaten them straight, over rice, on tortillas, and once at 2 AM standing over the sink like a raccoon. Zero complaints. If you want a meal that requires no effort, no brain cells, and no shame, this is it. Stock up. Your future hungry self will thank you.

Good Beef Tamales.
Overly salty but good otherwise. The corn husk wrapped Tamales taste somewhat better but they aren't as readily available everywhere.

Easy Shelf-stable Tamales to have on hand
I recently tried Hormel Beef Tamales and wanted to share my thoughts on this product. As someone who enjoys Mexican food and is always on the lookout for quick and convenient meal options, I was intrigued by this product. In terms of convenience, the tamales come in a can, making them an easy and portable option for on-the-go meals. The fact that they have a long shelf life also makes them a great option to have on hand in the pantry. Taste-wise, the tamales have a juicy and tender texture, with a savory beef filling that has a spicy and slightly sweet flavor. The texture is soft and slightly chewy, which I think will be appealing to those who enjoy Mexican cuisine. I also appreciate that the tamales are free from preservatives, which is a big plus for those who are mindful of what they put into their bodies. In terms of value, I think the price is reasonable for the number of tamales that come in each can. This product is an affordable option for those who want a quick and easy meal without breaking the bank. Overall, I would say that Hormel Beef Tamales are a decent option for those looking for a convenient and budget-friendly meal. I would recommend trying them if you are a fan of Mexican food and are looking for a quick and easy option. However, I would also note that they may not be the best choice for those who are looking for a more authentic tamale experience, as they do have a slightly different texture and flavor profile than traditional tamales.

Formal tamales
Not bad for a canned product

Every can mashed up inside.
These are always good but I think the ones for sale here are seconds or something. Every can had everything crammed in the can and all broke up. Whenever I buy these in the store they are fine. I would not think much if one can was messed up but every one in the case? They taste fine just all messed up.

Great taste
We buy only the beef. Makes a quick meal. I usually eat one can, and add salsa.

Defective tamales and dented cans
I’ve ordered these tamales several times and will not order again. I live in Canada so I have to pay an absorbent price for a case. Each time I receive them the cans are dented and the tamales are mushy as well as being all curled up and deformed looking. A lot of the tamales are only small pieces wrapped in the paper. I ordered another case thinking they surely wouldn’t be like the first case, but sadly they were. You can’t return food items so unfortunately I was stuck with the defective/deformed tamales. Will not bother spending over $100 again on this product.
