Way better than the cheap stuff, and worth it.
I started using pomades with a new haircut a couple years ago, and I started with the cheapest stuff I could get at Walmart--Axe brand. I'm not proud of that decision, but I don't deny it. More recently I discovered that Old Spice makes a pomade, and I started using it. There were pros and cons to both, but neither holds a candle to this stuff. Axe was nice because it was thoroughly water-based and could easily be "revived" in the bathroom with a dab of water on the go, but it rarely held through the day without having to be revived. The biggest concern I had with Axe, other than perpetuating a brand whose advertisements morally offend me, is that the clearish blue pomade appeared to have flecks of glitter in it. Now I never saw glitter in my hair using it, but it they were definitely in the container, and that's a problem. Old Spice is a very different sort of product. It is white and has a better hold, but it can't be revived. It will also leave white streaks if your not careful to work it in well, and worse than that, I always have to shampoo my hair twice (no matter how much shampoo I use) to get it all out in the shower. I appreciate the Old Spice brand, and I like it better than Axe, but I remained unsatisfied. Enter Imperial Barber Products Classic Pomade. It is clear and surprisingly thick. The jar says it can be applied to dry hair, but that seems like it would be a rather unpleasant experience. I use this right after I get out of the shower, with my hair still pretty damp, and it goes on like a charm. You only need a small amount, and I think that will end up saving me money over the long run against the cheap pomades that require more product for the same hold (including the aforementioned Axe and Old Spice). This stuff has a strong hold that lasts all day and takes a lot of punishment. And even if you do find your hair loosing the sharp look at 3:00pm, dabbing it with just a little water and reshaping it is simple and works like a charm. This stuff revives very well, and it is also water-based and really easy to wash out. No more double shampoo. And as an added bonus, it's cool, and retro, and made in the USA. We have a winner.

Only Pomade I'll Use!
First of all, if you are used to drugstore hair products and you want to try something new that provides a strong hold, a light shine and a great fragrance, then look no further. Imperial Classic Pomade is not only all of things, but it washes out super easy and hasn't left any buildup on my scalp. The fragrance is very subtle but pleasant and leans towards a sweeter, almost melon-y smell. Fans of vanilla, bourbon and sandalwood fragranced pomade will not appreciate this, but again, it's so subtle and the only person who gets close enough to me to smell my hair on a regular basis loves the smell, so much so that she has started using it as a finishing product or when she needs to tame unrulies. Another benefit for me is that it is water-based and not petroleum wax, or "clay". -Less stress on the follicles means better hair health over time. I've used many of Imperial's products and although I've been satisfied with all of them, this is the hair product that hasn't left my grooming kit since I started using it more than 10 years ago.

Just buy it.
This stuff is absolutely the best pomade out there. I have quite a thick mane of straight hair, and this tames it like none other. Sure, this is a bit pricey, but I was paying $16 for 3 oz. of American Crew Fiber, and this knocks that out of the park. I have been using this for about four months now, and the can is not quite half-empty. I usually apply this with damp to dry hair and get great results. It doesn't take away volume, which is an issue with straight-haired guys, and it restyles quickly with a little water and a comb. The watermelon scent, while not the manliest, isn't overpowering and just makes your hair smell fresh. It's also easy to apply a small amount right before a date to reinforce the hold for the rest of the night. This stuff hold really well, too. I usually only use it to get a nice, sharp part and to hold the front in place. For the rest of the hair, I just use a general push through with my fingers. Imperial doesn't gunk up the combs I use like the old American Crew, either. It is very easily washed out and cleaned up due to it's water-based chemistry. For the price, this stuff is a great buy. Made in L.A., holds tighter than hell, smells good, washes out easily, easy clean-up from hands--you just can't beat this stuff.

Good, not great
This stuff claims to be the strongest hold pomade with a matte finish. I don't know about that. The Firme Hold Suavecito has a better hold. I've come to the realization that any pomade has at least a little sheen to it. This stuff doesn't leave your hair feeling too crunchy. It washes out very well and has a light cucumber melon scent to it that my wife really likes. Applies very well. If it's falling during the day, just run a wet comb through it and holds even firmer than before. If you go outside and your head naturally heats up, the product goes flat quick. If you sweat at all, it basically looses all hold as if there's nothing in your hair. That's why I didn't give it 5 stars. I like the Suavecito better. Good product, used the whole can, but won't buy it again.

Best Hair Product for Men
THE BEST hair product for men I've ever tried! I've tried so many products it's ridiculous, and this one from Imperial is by far the best I've used for a bunch of reasons. I've finely discovered how important it is to match the hair product to your hair type, not what you "want." So after doing a ton of research on hair types, what products work best for those hair types, and assessing my own hair, I settled on Imperial Classic Pomade and I couldn't be happier! I have very thick, fast growing, wavy hair that has a mind of it's own when it's medium or longer length. So if I want my hair to do what I want, it can't be longer then an inch or two. Not anymore! I want my hair to lay down straight and have a nice clean cut look with a little bit of length, and before this product, that was not possible. Now it is! I just put a little bit of leave in conditioner in my hair to keep it moisturized (which helps it stay down), then rub about a quarter sized dollop of the Imperial Pomade in my hands, and work the product in. I'm able to get that medium length, clean cut look, short on the side look, AND have my hair stay more or less straight, which was IMPOSSIBLE before using this product. I also LOVE how it looks in my hair. When it first goes in, it looks shiny and very slick, but within a short time, the shine fades to a more natural look, and is in between matte and low shine. If you put a ton in, you can keep it looking somewhat shiny, or if you put in less, it looks more matte. It also looks very very natural and like nothing is in your hair, which most products don't. It also smells great (light smell of watermelon), weighs next to nothing in your hair, washes out instantly with water, and can easily be restyled throughout the day by adding a tiny bit of water to your hair and reworking the style. It's without a doubt the greatest hair product for men out there I've ever tried! AND you get a huge 6oz container for only 19.95!!! That's outrageously inexpensive for such a great product compared to all the other rip off priced mens products out there that only have 1.5-3oz's for $25-$40. Can't say enough great things about this amazing product! You'd be hard pressed to find anything better then this, and the value is so good!

Clean, strong hold, easy to wash or reactivate
I've always had blonde, thin Scandinavian hair which is often hard to style if I don't use thick wax or strong hard gel. This stuff has been a great in-between. I rub a little in between my palms fast and hard to heat it up and activate it. Then work it into the hair from the roots. I use a thick comb to style it back neatly out of my face, and that's it. If it dries up a little too hard like gel, I can run my fingers through it a little to soften it up and it still holds although a bit more loosely and natural-looking. (Gross man warning!) If I leave it in a bit too long (or even overnight while I sleep) and it starts losing its shape, I'll run some wet fingers through my hair and it comes back to life. It gets slightly more disheveled each time, so it doesn't work forever, but still does wonders in a pinch!

Good pomade, with some drawbacks
I have fair skin and dark blond hair, almost brown and I typically go for the clean cut classic look (like that hard drinking guy that works in advertising). This pomade holds well and has a decent amount of shine. The smell is surprisingly a candy/sweet sort of smell. The pomade however is really sticky and pulls on my hair kind of hard when I throw it in. I have tried applying it lightly however it still pulls a bit. I was trying this as an alternative to the American Crew pomade found in most stores. The typical Crew brand comparatively has a lighter, creamier texture ─ and for my hair type a little bit more of a shine. The Crew applies easier and more evenly however this Imperial stuff has a little bit of a stronger hold. At the end of the day, Crew will stay shiny however this product can make my hair feel a bit dry (I admit that this is most likely with regards to my hair type). All in all it is a decent product and I am certainly willing to try some of the other stuff Imperial has to offer.
