On a layer or two of paint it works. More layers than that and the edges will be very visible. Trim Magic also shrinks in volume as it dries, so a smoothly filled surface when wet won't remain smooth when dry.Second, it dries clear. If you apply Trim Magic to a surface that isn't all the same color, you may have to use an extra coat of paint to hide the contrast. For example if not all the paint or old primer is removed and it's a different color or lighter or darker than the rest of the materiel. Totally sanded down the whole door and this did absolutely nothing to fill in the small cracks after multiple coats - in fact, it made more prominent brush lines even though I used a high-quality paint brush. I had some window sills in very poor condition. Badly peeling paint and the wood was cracking. After scraping the peeling paint and applying a few coats of TRIM MAGIC and then a top coat the sills look great. Since the product dries clear after 3 coats you could see the cracks but they were under the TRIM MAGIC. It looked as though the wood was invaded and the top coat went right over it.
