We got my son the ultimate garage for his third birthday and he loves playing with it so since you can connect hot wheels pieces together, we thought we’d order this. Great idea but oops, I don’t have any of the orange track or gray city track to connect it to the garage. It can stand as a toy on its own but will be cooler for him if we connect it together. This toy is almost a foot wide and can raise and lower - at it’s tallest, it is about 8.5 inches high. This set when closed down looks like a mechanics garage with two bays that cars can drive into. There is a “road” around the side and across the front of the set where your little one can drive the cars, and an exterior “get your tires fixed bay that a pretend little tool to “fix” them. Fiddle around with the “gas pump”, “shifter”, or “wheel” levers that are in front of the garage bays, and eventually the garage springs into the air, exposing an angry gorilla who lifts and dumps the vehicles that were in the bays. When you push the garage back down, the gorilla crouches behind it Of course that is hilarious for the first hour but the real playability comes in driving cars to that garage from other Hot Wheels pieces, so make sure to not be like me - prepare in advance with a bit of extra track or road. .Theres a large fixed wrench on top of the garage which serves as a carrying handle if your kiddo wants to carry this around. I’d say that the age on this is 3-5 or 6. I think the manufacturer is kind of iffy on the age range too - it kind of depends on your child. The front of the box says "Ages 4-8", the back of the box shows "Ages 3-8", and the manufacturer’s website and this listing shows 3-5. Shrug? Overall this is a fun toy for a while, but will serve you better if you have other pieces of the Hot Wheels City set to go with it. It seems like it is sturdy / will be durable. It comes with one yellow sports car, but if you’re buying this I’m pretty sure you have others to fill out the other bays.

Hot Wheels sets are weird. Scratch that--pretty much any name-brand toy set is weird. It looks cool and, to be honest, it is cool, but it's never very much for the price or even for a gift. If you were buying several sets--like a large garage and a couple of the smaller, cheaper sets--then this Hot Wheels garage would go great with your collection. It's great quality, sturdy and strong, and compatible with a variety of HW tracks. But as a standalone toy? Boring. I mean, I got it out of the package and fiddled with it and I still had to ask, "What in the world does this thing do?" Overall, it's a toy. (All toys are blah. 😜) Does any kid really need yet another toy? It'd make a perfect gift of a HW lover, to add to a collection of tracks, cars, and sets--it's just lacking on its own.
