It malfunctions all the time. When I want it to open up to put my phone it doesn't! When I don't want it to open it does! A few days after I received it, I thought it was broken. The wings wouldn’t open up but after playing with it, I was able to place my phone inside. Fast forward now it does the same thing. The wings would just get jammed either open or closed and after a while it would function as normal. The actual charging part always works though, just need the wings to function so your phone can stay in place or get in in the first place.
