Started right up after installing. You have to take several pieces off to be able to get the nuts on the bottom of the 4 bolts, but it all went back together easily. This keeps my 12 year old mower going.

Fit my old Briggs and Stratton Quantum Power 4hp engine (Replaces part #493295 or 497598 or 497680) and everything lined up nicely; however the old part assembly was riveted to the shroud so you need to grind off the rivets but after that it fits perfectly and comes with 5/16 bolts and nuts for installation. Before reassembly, consider lengthening the pull cord, which is easy to do. For the price, it's a cheap and effective repair.

Fitted a Paulman 6.25 and work well

My Toro mower has a Kohler engine and the recoil starter self-destructed. The OEM part from Kohler would have been four times what I paid for this one. It was a perfect fit and it works well. The only issue is the cord is much shorter than the OEM one. This means I cannot have it on the mower handle. For the time being, it won't hurt me to bend over a bit and pull the cord at the mower's engine. If that becomes too much, I can can tie on a length of rope and be back in business. Still, better would have been a longer cord, as it would be easier to shorten it if needed than to add to it.
