I absolutely love this baby gate. I have two toddlers, and having the peace of mind knowing they can’t easily access the stairs is everything. In real use, this gate does exactly what it’s supposed to do—adults can open it easily, but little hands can’t. I’ve watched my daughter try to open it herself and she was completely unsuccessful, which is exactly what you want in a safety gate. The walk-through door is very convenient. It swings open both ways, and I can easily open it one-handed by sliding the safety lock and lifting the handle. I also love the smart design features—the auto-close function works great, and the hold-open feature is helpful when carrying laundry or kids. When installed at the top of the stairs, the door stopper adds an extra layer of safety, which really shows thoughtful engineering. The gate feels sturdy and well made, not flimsy or cheap, and it blends nicely into the home without being an eyesore. Installation was straightforward, and once it’s in place, it feels secure and reliable. Overall, this gate offers excellent safety, ease of use, and quality for the price. If you have toddlers or pets and need a dependable gate—especially for stairs—this one is absolutely worth it.

I'm just a little puppy and I've been super busy exploring my new house. For some reason The Mama does not think I need to be upstairs where there's tons of stuff for me to get into. I have no idea what she's so worried about. I just like to explore everything with my teeth. The Mama bought this gate as a solution to keep me on the main floor where everybody can see me unless they go upstairs with me. Well I'm here to tell you this gate is dumb. It works exactly like she wanted it to and keeps me from going upstairs with all my people. She said putting it together was pretty easy and she loved the instructions because they came with pictures showing different configurations for the gate. Clearly they worked because it fits beautifully and I'm STUCK outside of it. I mean sure, it looks really pretty and is super sturdy (I DEFINITELY can't knock it down...I've tried) she even bought these little extension things to make it even more stable. The latch works perfectly when my sisters remember to do it. Every now and then they leave it open and I can escape up the stairs! I don't recommend this gate AT ALL but The Mama does- she says it looks super nice and is made of high quality materials. She also says the price is a great insurance policy to prevent me from being in places I'm not supposed to be destroying things or eating them and having to have them surgically removed. I say it's lame.

Love this gate. Easy to install. Very durable, we have used it for many years and have had no problems.

Upside: This is a 5 star gate. The gate looks good. The dual installation kit (banister or wall mount) makes it relatively easy to install. And, the ability to slide open, as well as swing open, makes the gate very functional. I’m sure it will do a wonderful job of keeping my wife who has dementia from falling down the stairs. Downside: The first gate I received was damaged in shipment. The corner of the flimsy box the gate came packaged in was crushed. I noticed some additional packaging protecting the corner so I opened the damaged box and found three of the rungs had broken off of the frame. I initiated a return and to Amazon’s credit, they processed my return submission and had a replacement gate delivered in less than a day. Also, unless I missed something, the installation video posted by the company uses different hardware for attaching the hinged side support to the round part of the banister. The c-bracket looks different and my hardware did not come with an adhesive strip. It also looked to me like the video showed the hinge bolts reversed from what is shown on the instructions included in the package.

I prefer the wood look; metal baby gates aren’t very physically appeasing in my opinion, so options were slim. I also knew that I wanted something hardware mounted to avoid stubbed toes on the bottom bar, widen usable pathway, and provide additional stability. This gate checks all of the boxes. I was concerned after reading lots of reviews that the gate was difficult to open, doesn’t lock appropriately, that it wasn’t sturdy, or that it was loud but I don’t find any of this to be true. I’m able to open it easily with one hand, and the handle that unlocks it is so simple my 5 year old can do it without help (but my 2 year old cannot, which serves its purpose). Also, as long as it’s installed appropriately and everything lines up, it’s really easy to close and lock. It’s sturdy enough to withstand my 2 year old shaking because he wants up or down the stairs, as well as regular use. The kids go up and down the stairs constantly and it works perfectly well. Lastly, I don’t find it to be loud at all. There is a “click” whenever it is locked appropriately but otherwise I feel that it functions without excessive noise. I also love that it can be easily removed, if necessary, to move furniture etc. Install was also really simple. I do consider myself to be pretty handy, but I was able to install it with no help and didn’t have any issues. I’m a perfectionist, so I do recommend using a level at each step to ensure that everything is nice and straight. This will not only make everything look nice, but also makes it more functional and will help avoid issues mentioned by other reviewers. In order to make sure everything lined up correctly, I installed the hinge side first, then the gate itself, then the lock side, checking throughout that everything was nice and level. I feel that doing it this way, as opposed to putting up the gate last, allowed me to really ensure that everything lined up well and to avoid making unnecessary holes in the wall. I’m very happy with this purchase, and would buy again.

I love that I am able to keep my little safe without damaging or putting holes in the wall or stair railing! It’s pretty, nice cherry wood color and well built so it will last as long as we need it. Very user friendly, the latch system needs bigger hands to open so my little man can’t sneak through or let the dogs out- it also makes sure it can’t accidentally get latched when it needs to be open - it must be closed intentionally. It is adjustable, which makes it work for any space if I need to move it elsewhere.

I got 2 of these gates to keep dogs away from the front door when necessary. For some reason, a lot of the dog gates I found were too narrow for my hallway and kitchen opening. When I started looking for baby gates instead, I found these and thought I'd give them a try because they have the look of wood and metal instead of garish white plastic. They are pressure mounted, so I can remove them anytime and it'll be as if they were never there. It took maybe about 30 minutes to assemble and mount the first one, but the second one was done in under 10 minutes. I didn't find the directions especially helpful, and figured out my own method to get them assembled and installed. I did appreciate the warning labels about the fact that it doesn't look square and that's on purpose. Those of us who don't have engineering brains or experience may not have known that without the warning. One note if you're buying this gate as a gift: it came not in a regular mail package, but rather in the box with a picture and label of what's inside, so there would have been no mystery at all before opening the mail, and neighbors will know what you've ordered until you get home to bring it inside. Overall, I love these gates and find them to be a high-quality product that is working just fine in my home for the purpose of keeping dogs corralled in one part of the house. Highly recommend!

In my efforts to keep the dogs downstairs, I have tried a few banister gates listed on Amazon, including this one. My problems with the others stemmed from the fact that they were held to the banisters with 2" circular plates that had to be backed out to length by screwing/unscrewing them. The distance they had to cover caused instability in the gates, which would fall off the stairs every few hours. The benefit of this kit is that the sides are held to the banister with ratchet straps essentially, which seemed like a perfect solution. In execution though, the straps do not tighten enough to support the weight of the gate and two metal bars that hold the gate. Within the first 24 hours, the gate had fallen off multiple times, causing the adhesive pads to get completely ruined. There were no spare adhesive pads in the box. The brackets on the top of the gate holding the two sliding pieces together were bent and causes 'Rickety-ness' on this gate that makes it difficult to close. You have to lift the gate into the holder and then press the top and work it into the latch carefully to close it properly. It takes more than a few seconds to get it properly latched and often times the kids don't bother with it, causing the dogs to get upstairs. I have looked extensively at the other options and there are just not any great banister gates with a solid design anywhere in the realm of reasonable pricing. If this were the first gate I purchased, I would have returned it. At this point I'm just tired of having to re-secure this thing every day.

This metal baby gate has a 2 lock system, making it virtually impossible for a little one to open! It doesn’t damage the walls and it works great with our animals too. A great bonus: it looks so stylish!

I bought this gate to protect my grandson while visiting in my home. I placed it at the entrance of my living room so he could not speedily crawl towards the stairs. It was easy to set up and easy to open the door to the gate. I really like that it lock closes automactically. I did not want a gate that had to be screwed into the walls. The tension holders are strong and secure. Great alternative to hardware. Definitely recommend.
