Notes taker and a HQ ambient recorder
OVERVIEW - I have had my DVT4110 for nearly three years. In that time it has proved an excellent all-rounder with proven reliability. Replacement cable - ask for [ USB type C data & power ] BUILD QUALITY - The shell is lightweight aluminium with smooth round edges all around the device. All buttons still feel firm and tight. The slider ON / OFF / HOLD switch, and USB cover are rubber and show no signs of wear. MICROPHONES - There are three. Two for stereo and one in the middle for NOTES mode. The covering is silver plastic and mine have chipped after dropping the DVT4110 several times (and worked perfectly afterwards). The quality of the microphones is good enough for podcasts or voiceovers and they have a low noise floor. DISPLAY - The screen is coloured and very large. File information uses a very clear font. The recording level meter is two white bars (for left and right sounds). The colours are white / brown / red. For good recording levels it best to prevent he bars from going into orange, and definitely not red. On playback a blue waveform is displayed. This is a visual representation of the sound recorded in any particular file. In a good recording the waveform should look like Christmas tree laid on its side, with the tips of the wave just touching the edge of the underlying blue bar. If it's not, and the waves are one continual block all the way along - then the recording level for that file was too high and overloaded the recording. RECORDING LEVELS - There are five to choose from (there is no manual recording level) 1) VERY LOW 2) LOW 3) MEDIUM 4) HIGH 5) VERY HIGH. RECORDING "SCENES" - They are INTERVIEW - LECTURE - MEETING - MUSIC - NOTE - SPEECH RECOGNITION - CUSTOM. Each "SCENE" uses different settings for different enviroments. They are in MP3 format and utilise the "Genre" column in windows. Using this you can group these into each different genres and further sort them. Very handy if you have 400 files to sort through. FILE TRANSFER - The DVT4110 supports windows "drag and drop". When plugged in "This PC" window will assign the DVT4110 a drive letter to its internal memory and any micro sd card in the device. RECORDING - Threre is a red button. Before recording you must prepare the DVT4110 by pressing the black + button. If you don't do this then your new recording will be "APPENDED" (added to) the last recording you made. So, new recording goes like this - press the black button under the + sign on the screen, then press the red record button. BATTERY (built in) - Showing no signs of diminishing output. Mine still runs continuously for 2 hours with 60% still available. If extra power is needed then I use an external power bank. I have noted that if the DVT4110 battery is completly flat then it will consume about 68% of a fully charged power bank. This brings the DVT4110 to full capacity. I hope you find this of use.

EXCELLENT
Does what it says on the tin, and more. I have done 9 interviews so far and the transcription quality has been superb. Very easy to use and transfer the audio files - I even deleted my files by mistake and managed to recover them by plugging in the device and searching for *.*.mp3, and they all reappeared and I promptly shifted them to my online folder!!!

Great sound recorder spoiled by the app.
This is actually a fantastic product, with great sound, ease of use, sturdy build and great battery life. However, the app is next to useless and unstable. It will not allow you to transfer audio recordings via the app, which was my sole reason for buying this. If the app could be fixed, this would a 5 star product.

Timer recording on DVT4110/00
I have been looking for a couple of years for a recorder that could "timer record on it's line-in socket with voice activation" and finally, this device does that. You can set a start date, start time in Hrs & Mins and a duration of 15 / 30 / 60 / 120 mins. or unlimited time. At the voice activation page you are able to set a recording level threshold. It's very easy to use with an intuitive user interface. It feels lightweight and a tiny bit plasticy but very tough plastic body nonetheless. Battery life so far seems very good.

do not buy
Sadly it is impossible to give a minus Mark. It is very clumsy, difficult to use, impossible to delete files, I cannot rename files so if I forget to send them my secretary is not able aware as it labels in by date and time. Menus are clumsy useless. Do not buy. I previously had a very good Olympus dictaphone

Not that great and very disappointing for the price!
Quite disappointing really. My old Olympus recorder finally broke after 10 years so I replaced it with this one. I expected it to be top quality, robust and easy to use. It doesn't feel like the quality I was expecting for the price, it feels like it should be about 30% of the price. The ease of use is not that great either. No proper manual and it is not obvious what all the buttons do without some experimentation. the app was a bit crap and I had to set my iphone to a reversionary mode to get it to connect. This needs mentioning that newer iphones wont allow it to connect without this. Sound quality pick up on the microphones is not great even when I am right next to it, so I cant image this is going to be good for people who use for capturing lectures. Finally I also thought it came with the DVT2810 transcription software which is one of the reason i bought it and how I thought it justified the price. I logged on to the website to get the software and it allowed me to download it, but then asked for a software serial number which I did not get. Apparently you don't get the software free and you have to pay another ยฃ44.00 which added to the price of the unit would make this close to ยฃ150 . ... All in all not very good value for money and very disappointing overall.
