FloraCraft Decorative Straw Bale 8 Inch x 9 Inch x 20 Inch Natural

It's hard for me to find straw where I live and truly hate to have to spend as much for this straw as it is priced, but I'm stuck with no other options. Even though it says it is "decorative" straw, it's been shaken pretty good to remove contaminants like typical seeds mingled in with straw you'd get if you went to the farm community and bought a large bale of straw. My gardener initially complained to me that I was spending too MUCH for too little of the straw since he could get it in a large bale from a farmer. Well, he ate his words a few months later when my garden where I put the straw didn't have any unwanted grasses growing, but his clients that used the farmer's straw the he bought had way too many unwanted grasses growing in their gardens. I guess you could say that these straw bales are "sterilized" from having the random unwanted seeds. Don't get me wrong, I got a FEW unwanted seeds and some strong types of grasses appear in my garden in subsequent years of using this straw, but it's really insignificant. This is ideal straw for people wanting to make outside winter shelters for cats. It will help to retain the cat's heat inside the shelter, so it is a must for such shelters. I recommend this straw. Be careful when making your selection so you are getting the size of straw bale that you are needing. It's pricey for the size of what you get, so don't be thinking you'll be getting a really large bale like you'd get from a farm.

These were perfect size for my small front porch to hold pumpkins and small gourds for my fall display. However with the warmer weather and rain (they held up super even wet) they started sprouting grass. They lasted about a month or so. I'll buy them over and over each fall! I gave them 4 stars due to the mess they left me in my house when unpacking them. I guess next time I'll open outdoors.

Bought this to use in the cat house outside in the winter, keeps the cats snuggly on those frosty nites. It's cleaner and less seeds than the straw from feed stores

I used this on my front step with a light up pumpkin on it for Thanksgiving. It did the trick but let me tell you it was very, very messy. I read that prior to buying it. So I think the price is pretty off since it falls apart and leaves hay everywhere and it's super small. I would not recommend to buy.
