I originally intended for it to be part of my soap rotation but it's so convenient and works so well that I've used it every day. The first time I used it I couldn't believe how quickly the lather started to form and it made the perfect amount for 3 passes with my synthetic 24mm knot. My 26mm synthetic knot is even better. Some have said they don't like the scent. It's often described as smelling like citronella (mosquito repellant). I get a little bit of that but it's fresher and more lemony in my opinion. I actually like it quite a bit. Tip: You definitely have to wet your face a LOT and then dip the tip of the stick in water before you start rubbing it on. If you don't, it will "hang up" and won't glide over your skin very well. I also start lathering with a bit more water in the brush than my other soaps. It's fairly thirsty. BTW, this is Dawn's husband. Dawn doesn't shave her face. ;) Review: If you’re still longing to have Williams shave soap back again, this will do to take its place - If you’re still longing to have Williams shave soap back again, this will do to take its place. The smell is about 85% like Williams, and they added in what seems like some antiseptic smell with the other 15%. It’s very similar overall, once mixed with water and made into lather. The lather is thick. These 5 sticks will last me a long time. Much cheaper than buying that junk in a foam can.

Love this stuff. Gave a stick to our college-age grandson and he does as well.

"The AK-47 of shaving soap."
This soap works very well. Very easy to lather. The smell is hard to describe. It's lemon, basically. Some people compare it to citronella candles. It's not quite that- citronella has a waxy, chemically, hardware store smell. Arko isn't chemically or waxy at all. It's warm, sweet, and lemony. Kinda syrupy. Not fresh and zesty lemon, but candy lemon. The intended use for a shaving stick like this is to rub it on your face and then use a wet brush to lather. Rather, I cut the stick into little chunks with a pair of scissors and smush it into a ramekin (you can use a cheese grater but I didn't want to get shaving soap on my cheese grater). Add some water on top, swirl with wet brush, and build lather on your face for about 60 seconds. A mug isn't necessary. It works just as well as my other soaps which are many times more expensive. I think everyone who shaves should try this soap. It's extremely cheap. This particular lot is $10 for five sticks. Each stick should last about three months of daily shaving, maybe more. That's fifteen months supply for only $10. I call that economical. The 12-pack is even more better, that will last you the rest of your natural life. Try this stuff, you'll like it.

So much better then I expected
I will start of by saying I was mad at myself for ordering before I received it. I had already convinced myself I was not going to like it at all by the time I got the package. When I opened it and smelled the aroma I was 100% sure I was not going to like it. I wet my face and rubbed it on, I did not have a brush so I just lathered it up with my hands which worked quite well surprisingly. I got so say the smell is horrible, it’s definitely not something that is pleasant. Now after all of that I have to say it gave me the best and most comfortable shave I have had in quite some time. It provides a smooth glide and makes the cut super close. Even with the horrible smell I think this is my new full time shave cream.

Works great in a stick container
I bought a five pack of Arko sticks for $9.45 (yup, a full-price Amazon review, *shocker!*:P). Foams up nicely. Nice glide when shaving. Scent is fine - kind of 'soapy'. Does a pretty solid job with general shaving. Very inexpensive. Good solid baseline shaving, but in the price range of a product like Williams. I took a few of these, and put them into these... 6 ct. Deodorant Twist-up Empty Containers (Natural) - for lotion bar, heel balm etc. (2 oz.) ... which work just fine. I ran a thin fingernail cleaner down the middle, to create a hole for the center threaded shaft, and the Arko sticks screw on & work just fine.

This soap is all you need for the perfect shave. If you don't fancy lots of different fragrances, this soap will provide slick, protection and a fresh feeling on the face. The smell is old style basic barber, but it is tallow-based, and you can use it anywhere. I keep one as stick for travel, and one I moulded into a bowl for home use. I'm amazed at the versatility, and the price for quality.

Love them. Proper 'old skool' shaving soap. And a lot cheaper than the dish alternatives. Took me a while to realise you have to lather the brush rather than attempting to rub the stick on your face; once you figure that out, you're golden. The scent is 'manly' as well (not 'chemical'), instead of the over fragranced stuff.
