The Nintendo DS. What more could one say? I'm going to try and rate this as objectively as possible. First off, this is by no means an adult gaming device. Anyone who is upset because it does not have TV out HD capabilities is playing with the wrong toy. You have to look at this product as it were geared towards children and the younger crowd. Many adults who purchase the DS feel that they have been ripped off. Well that's just the thing. Like I said, one has to see this as a youth oriented device. Anyways, now that we've cleared that up let talk about the DS itself. Graphics Game play Price Feature set. Graphics: Not great and it definitely would not be able to compete with the PSP, but If I remember correctly Edge magazine's top 100 games off all time features more games from the 2D era than anything else. Actually, out of the top ten 4 were 2 dimensional and the number 3 and 1 spot went to Mario 64 and Ocarina of time. Both these games were some of the first in the 3D world. So looking at it from that perspective, I'd say that graphics are outweighed by game play presentation and storyline. Plus new Super Mario bros is just plain goodness in a cartridge. Gameplay: Lets talk about Mario 64... The original Mario 64 relied heavily on the N64's analog joystick, so Mario 64 DS gives you a few different control options that attempt to emulate the control in different ways. By default, the game is configured to let you play without using the system's touch screen. The D pad is used for movement, and the buttons are used for jumping, ducking, attacking, and running. While you can also use the touch screen for running, the other two control modes are somewhat better suited for use with the touch screen, letting you shuffle the buttons around a bit to give you more control over your character. I think the methods incorporated for movement in this game are superb and could not have been mapped much better. This seems to go for all games. Most games that require the use of the touchpad and stylist are focus more on tactical elements rather than speed, which results in a more enjoyable game experience if you're not too quick with the stick. One issue I did encounter was after the touch screen got a bit scratched up it was not as sensitive. Plus those little stylists are so easy to loose. Price: Can't beat it. Can be found for under 100 dollars if you shop around. You're not going to find a cheaper way to entertain yourself on the go. The games are not too expensive either. Although, 30 bucks is pretty steep for anyone under 12. Feature set: I'd say for something as simple as a "Gameboy" it has a lot to offer. It has Wifi which can be a lot of fun with friends. Try playing Mario kart with 7 other people on their DS's and you'll know what I mean. Also the chat feature is neat if you have friends that have DS's as well. And a big bonus is the backwards compatibility with GBA games. There is a little cartridge spot to put old games in. Some of my favorite Mario games are still playable on the go cause of this. Other than that there are not a lot of features. But I wouldn't expect it to. Like I said before, If you're looking for a portable media center this is not it. The DS is a fun handheld (strictly related to gaming) that can keep you entertained for hours on end.

Compact, Fun, and Easy to Love
The Nintendo DS Lite in Polar White is a great little system that still holds up well. Its compact design makes it easy to carry around, and it feels comfortable in your hands whether you’re playing for a few minutes or a long session. The lightweight build and smooth buttons make gameplay feel simple and intuitive, even for people who aren’t big gamers. One of the best things about the DS Lite is how easy it is to pick up and play. The dual screens and touchscreen controls are responsive, and the system boots up quickly, which is perfect for on-the-go gaming. The Polar White color gives it a clean, classic look that doesn’t feel dated. Overall, this is a solid handheld console that delivers fun without being complicated. It’s great for casual players, collectors, or anyone wanting a portable system that’s reliable, compact, and easy to enjoy anytime.

A Solid System
People interested in the DS Lite generally fall into two categories: those who are considering upgrading from a standard DS, or those new to the system who are considering a purchase. Whether or not to ugprade can be a tough decision, given the $130 price tag, but I personally think that it's well worth it in the long run. If you currently don't have a DS of any flavor, then it's hard to go wrong with a Lite. Pros: - Four brightness settings that range from slightly dimmer than a standard DS to an almost painful brightness that works splendidly outdoors. - Crisper screen quality in general. - Relocation of various aspects of the system; the start/select buttons have been moved to the lower right corner, the microphone has been centered, the power button has become a sliding switch on the righthand side, and the stylus slot goes right below the power slide. All of these were incredibly convenient changes. - Better interface sensitivity: the touch screen almost comes across as more responsive, the buttons are raised and provide better feedback, and the D-pad is a little more forgiving. In addition, the volume control slide gives a little more resistance, which allows for more fine-tuning. - A false GBA cartridge has been provided that slips into the GBA slot, 'capping' the opening to provide a more seamless look and prevent dust accumulation. - The stylus is thicker and a little easier to hold. - Finally and most obviously, the system itself has been redesigned to be smaller, compacted, sleek, and generally pretty. - The DS, Lite or otherwise, provides an innovative new avenue for games. The touch screen, microphone, and even the (somewhat lacking) 'Nintendo WiFi Connection' provide for a great experience. In addition, wireless multiplayer usually works well, and sometimes only one cartridge is needed between systems for "DS Download Play" - a sort of demo'd version of a game shared between friends. Cons: - When a GBA cartridge is in the system as opposed to the cap, it sticks out from the slot a little bit, ruining the 'smooth' appearance. This is purely aesthetic. - It's impossible to adjust between the brightness settings unless at the system's home screen. - Neither the DS nor the Lite support older GBC or originally GB games. Only GBA and DS games are supported. Overall, it's a fantastic system. If you're new to the DS line, then I'd highly recommend picking up the system. Some good games to look at are Trauma Center: Under the Knife (a surgery sim of sorts that makes extensive use of the stylus), Mario Kart DS (solid racing game), Mario 64 DS (port of a classic with new features and minigames), New Super Mario Bros (reworking of the old sidescrolling version of Mario, very well done), Tetris DS, Metroid Prime Hunters (strong FPS/adventure game, excellent multiplayer), and perhaps Brain Age. If you already possess a DS, then the purchase is entirely dependent on your willingness to part with $130. I think it's worth the money, and eBay is always a viable option for parting with the old system.

Still Good In 2015!
I was raised without video games in my house, and my parents told me that if I wanted video games, I would have to buy them. That being said, it was 2012 and I was 16 before I got my first Gameboy (SP), and two years later, I decided to upgrade to a DS Lite. I love it! It is a vast improvement over the GBA, which is a sentence I never thought i would say, as I love my GBA. Right now, I only have one game on it (LEGO Harry Potter 1-4 (GREAT GAME)) but it's easy to see even from one day of playing it that it is superior to GBA. 3D games that have perspectives that change as you move around make for more realistic gameplay, and the graphics are sharper and smoother. I know that it being 2015, with the recent release of the 2DS, that the DS Lite is probably outdated, but I'd still recommend this system to anyone who is looking for a cheaper system that is still really good. Pros: -Adjustable screen brightness! I know this sounds lame, but it's a great feature, and it can help save battery, which leads me to: -Long battery life- I believe it is advertised at 19 hours, which is great. I recieved my DS from a used seller, and it came with a full battery, and I still havent recharged. By comparison, I've had to charge my iPod Touch 3 times in the last 48 hours. -Better, more complex games. With better computer power, comes the ability to produce better, more complex games. -Touch Screen ('nuff said) -Sleep setting when you close the lid- makes it easier to pause a game without losing battery Cons: -Stylus: it's not inherently bad, it's just easy to lose. I love the idea, but I live in constant fear of losing it. Overall, I think this is a great little system, and I will probably get rid of my GBA in favor of this, as the DS can play GBA games. Highly recommend!

Minor use. HA!
It was absolutely horrible it did not come in the condition they said it would, it said minor use well not sure what they consider minor use but....... It had a cracked hinge, literal gouges in the top screen, the letters on the buttons were worn almost off, and the body was in gruff condition but all this pales in comparison to what happened next. When the battery was drained of energy time to recharge right! oh no! Not so the battery would not recharge. So I when ahead and tried buying a new battery, but that would not recharge either. This is when I realized that the connection on the nintendo ds where the power cord plugs in to was damaged. So much for minor use I think this thing had been to war, so to speak!!!!!!!!! By this time I was pretty angry to say the least I had paid $109 dollars for this Nintendo DS (with minor use) and it was useless. So I went through the proper procedures of sending in complaints and have not heard nothing back, not even an acknowledgment of wrong doing so I felt this was pretty unfair. Now I am stuck with something that cost me more than $109 and it is worthless. I am writing this long complaint because I don't want anyone else to get jipped like I was. So be careful when ordering from these. $109 is a lot of money to lose out on. The only reason it got any stars is because I had to put at least one for it to go through.

Great Gaming System for ALL AGES & Awesome Service from TronicsDiscount
I ordered a Nintendo DS for my son's 6th birthday. He is autistic; so, we were a little unsure as to how well he would do w/ a Nintendo DS and if we could find games geared to his age level and development. It has quickly become his prize possession. There are some games easier than others; but, the set up of the Nintendo DS is easy to learn. It's a great little handheld game that is great for all ages (Just order the games to your desired age level and interest). We have found several educational games that are also made for Nintendo DS units that is helping my son learn in a format that captivates his attention ... which this mom LOVES! I have even caught my husband playing ... when my son isn't looking. Overall, it has been a great investment. We purchased our Nintendo DS (crimson because my son's favorite color is red ... he's a little obsessed w/ the color red) from TronicsDiscount and have had the absolute BEST service. They promptly shipped the DS as soon as I placed the order. We did have a problem w/ the touch screen at one point. Since it was under warranty I emailed TronicsDiscount. They immediately responded (the same day!) w/ a claim number and complete instructions on how to return for service. Service was completed quickly and promptly returned. Which was great when you have an impatient 6 year old that doesn't understand having to wait for repair. We could not possibly be more satisfied w/ the service we have received. I order a lot of stuff online; and, this seller has been, by far, the very best, not to mention easiest, to deal w/. If you need any type of electronics, check out TronicsDiscount first. You will NOT be disappointed. If you do have any type of issue, they will promptly and professionally handle the situation to the customer's satisfaction. Thanks TronicsDiscount!

Very nice, only one drawback
I have just bought two of these for my sons. The DS Lite is a very nice form factor. The body seems sturdy and a good size for small hands. I also have no problem using it (ie. the size is okay for adults, also). Pros: Very bright screen, very vivid colors (it looks like a video game ought to look, small, nice looking Cons: The SP cartriges are not flush with the unit when inserted. They stick out about 1/3 inch. My youngest son has managed to jar the SP cartridge loose while playing a few times. This causes the game to freeze, and the cartridge has to be removed and reinserted with the device powered down. Game play is lost. This is not a huge problem, but I was surprised, because I never saw any photos of an SP game in the unit before buying (fyi, there is a photo of an SP game in the unit on the Amazon listing). There is a small insert used to protect the SP slot when an SP cartridge is not in the machine. This thing looks good when it is in the DS Lite, but can easily be lost. We had an SP and a old DS before. We left games in the unit while storing to keep the cartridge from getting dust, lint, and debris in it. Now we have to remove the game before putting it in the case and return the protective cover. This is not a huge complaint, but I thought people may like to know.

The Best Handheld Available!
I was an early-adopter of the Nintendo DS. I can remember the joy that flooded my heart as I walked out of that GameStop in Conroe with my newest toy. I can remember how cool I felt as I stuffed that beast into my back pocket, and I remember how quickly I put it up on Ebay. The original Nintendo DS was a cool system, but it looked ugly and it really didn't make you feel cool. The new DS Lite, however, oozes cool and will undoubtedly make the system a must-buy for any Nintendo fan! Whereas the old DS was silver and clunky, DS Lite is sleek, shiny, and iPod-y. Additionally, Nintendo has made some small changes to just make this system work a lot better. For example, the microphone, which used to be located on the bottom left corner of the gadget is now right in the middle. This helps in a game like Brain Age where you use the microphone. Now, you just hold it like you normall would and you don't have to put your mouth in some weird location. Also, the power button which used to be located above the D-Pad is now located on the side of the unit. I can remember getting really far in a level in Mario 64 DS and then accidentally hitting that button and losing all my unsaved data...no more. Nintendo has also made the stylus a little fatter this time around, making it much easier to hold and enjoy. Of course, none of this is new information to anyone who has been following this product since it's announcement in early January (me). However, I was surprised at how small, sleek, and cool looking this product really is. Additionally, I was blown away by how many neat games are now on the system. I currently have Mario Kart DS, which is just awesome (especially on Nintendo Wi-Fi Connect), and Brain Age, which I can't tear my family away from. Add in Animal Crossing, Metroid Prime Hunters, and New Super Mario Brothers and you literally have one of the most impressive handheld systems ever! The DS Lite still does everything the original did, but the package is much more inviting this time around. I highly recommend it to any Nintendo fan and anyone debating on whether to get a DS Lite or a PSP. There is really no contest here.
