Windsor, Ontario's hard-rocking trio released this project in 1999. Though they sound not unlike a heavier, slicker produced Stone Temple Pilots, TTP's 'Triptych' is nonetheless a decent rock album. Features 'Heaven Coming Down', 'Touch', 'The Messenger' & nine more. Review: Great album - Another classic from the tea party. This album contains the hard rock they are known for and two of the best ballads they ever made. They have a slight experimental feel about them on this album, but it all gels well. Review: I love The Tea Party! - Absolutely amazing! I can't get enough of The Tea party. This is probably my favorite album of theirs. Good stuff ... relatively speaking ... but not thier best.
Sure it's good, but you can't go around giving EVERYTHING 4 or 5 stars because then you leave no room to differentiate the good stuff from the great stuff or the great stuff from the phenomenal stuff? This is not Tea Party's best. Although it is good compared to most music on the charts at any given time it just doesn't reflect what this band is really made of. Some melodic acoustic tunes highlight this one for me.

Surprising maturation and refinement of their sound
After the somewhat flat _Transmission_ Canada's Tea Party returns with what is more or less a culmination of lessons learned from the previous three albums. _Triptych_ is a fusion of the led-zeppelin-inspired ethnic explorations, NiN-like electronic rhythms and pulses, and grunge-rock heroics for a most satisfying brew. The lyrics remain, at least for me, inconsistent and occasionally forced. At least lead singer Jeff Martin, the modern-day alt.rock renaissance man, puts his pretentions out front - he thanks, among others, Nietzche, Russian dystopian sci-fi author Yevgeny Zamiatin, Charles Baudelaire AND French Symbolism. Lyrical pretentions aside, there's surprisingly little filler on this album and its consistently interesting in both content and musical texture. If you liked "The Edges Of Twilight" you will probably find this album indispensible. The opener "Touch" is very strong and seems to continue a Transmission-like vibe. "Underground" is a nice mysterious track and features plenty of odd assorted ethnic stringed instruments and percussives. "The Messenger" and "Heaven Coming Down" are typical Tea Party-style ballads, radio-friendly, yet subtly arranged and distinctive (the former written by legendary songwriter/producer Daniel Lanois) "Samsara" is another fine example of Tea Party's ethnic-tinged neo-Zeppelin attack, while some lovingly orchestrated string arrangements dominate the beautiful, haunting closer "Gone". Unfortunately they appear not to have an American distributor (at least their albums are NEVER in the stores), so you'll be paying top dollar for import editions of this one. If you can seek it out, there is a special two-CD "tour" edition that contains a bonus CD of B-sides, live material and other stuff.

absolutely love it.
The most solid The Tea Party album with not a single weak song, absolutely love it.

Some Transmission, Some Lighter Efforts Return
The album starts off with the same foreboding guitars and shrieks of its predecessor, but eventually mellows out into prettier melodies without losing its strength. Songs are overall tighter than they've ever been, as well.

A poetic and musical masterpeice for the late 90's
Why this amazingly talented band is not huge in every country on the planet is the biggest musical injustice of the 1990's. Listening to the Tea Party is like having your innermost emotions sung to you by a man with a beautifully seductive and rich vocal style that is often compared to Jim Morrison's, but in my estimations is much more compelling, powerful, and definately has a superior range. TRIPtych is a poetic and musical materpeice, and has completely surpassed my high expectations for their 4th album (5th if you include Alhambra). Their musical growth since their first album Spendor Solis, which at the time seemed like it couldn't be topped, has been phenomonal. The production of TRIPtych is excellent, Jeff's innovations with the guitar (like the harmony accompanying his vocals on These Living Arms)adds texture to every track. Each song blends seemlessly with the next, and when it's over you left wanting more. For those who might question whether they can pull the same sound off on stage, they can. At a recent show in Toronto, songs like Heaven Coming Down (the biggest selling song of the year in Canada) and , The Messenger ( their first ever cover), and Gone (which features violin, cello, and viola)already sounded as familiar as older songs like Fire in The Head and Temptation. Underground, These Living Arms, and Chimera are also outstanding tracks. The final word - if you have liked past Tea Party albums you'll love this record. If you are new to Tea Party, this cd should be an enlightening introduction to a band who will hopefully be huge in the next millenium. For the few who liked early Tea Party and feel left out in the cold with TRIPtych - listen to this album again. Open your minds, and realize that a band is made up of human beings who change and grow. I see alot of musical and spirtual growth in this album, and hope that it continues. This is cutting edge, it incorprates amazing lyricism, with indian mystism, classic rock, and a late 90's sound that blows away every other so called alternative rock band in the charts at the moment.
