At 7f it will only cycle maybe 15min total in a given hour, so the draw is not constant at 3amps. We also purchased the insulation cover, really makes a positive difference. We run our unit off our Goal Zero 400 Yeti, with an additional 35ah battery chained to it. We run the Dometic on the 12v outport on the Yeti. We charge the Yeti with the 12v DC outlet in our Subaru or an AC outlet if available. I can also charge the Yeti with our 100w solar panel or our Honda 1000 gen/inverter. Using this approach the only thing we concern ourselves with is the Goal Zero charge levels. We often head out for 30-40 day trips and this product nor our Goal Zero have yet to fail us. The savings in not buying ice every couple of days and the gas to go buy it has easily paid for our unit. (CFX65). **Q: Shouldn't the cooler take less power on D/C?** A: This is truly a refrerator frezer combo on 12 volts it only draws its full wattage of 5.5 amps when warm and cooling down which that power draw is equal to 60 watts on 12 volts most power outlet. In vehicles produce 175-200 watts its still uses same the power wattage/amps/ to power its compressor the on board computer detrimines power based on where its plugged in 12 or 120 volts so i guess the answer to your question would be no .. hope this helps however i drive semi truck and can keep ice cream in my truck for the first time in 37 yrs.. **Q: How do you set the temperature for second zone for dometic cfx-65dzus? i used it, read the manual, called dometic, no answer. 65 dz model** A: You set it for -07 F to use the freezer with the plastic wall installed and the refrigerator side stays around 33-39' F. Simple as that. Used it for a few days this weekend on a road trip. Very reliable. **Q: Is this refrigerator designed for constant use (100% duty cycle), or light/occasional use?** A: I did not see it stated anywhere that it was "certified" for constant use, but consider this: The 120-volt cord that comes with it is a 3-wire, fairly heavy gauge cord like what you would see on the older desktop computers and office equipment. Not a wall wart. My intent is to use it full-time (which may be only a 20-30% duty cycle or less, it seems to be very thermally efficient, especially with the insulating jacket that is available for it) in my RV, where I'm a full-timer. FYI, I have the baffles in to separate the freezing compartment from what I consider to be the other TWO compartments. The one next to it stays around 38 to 40 degrees when I have the thermostat set to 15 degrees in the freezer compartment, and the third compartment, over the compressor, is around 45 degrees. It was delivered only a week or so ago, so I'm still learning what it can do, but so far it's a really "cool" device, with far more storage than I expected.
