This stuff is great!
This stuff is great. Used this on bare oak cabinets, not my first choice in cabinets as the grain is quite bold, but I got a good deal on them so I went with it. Only used one coat of Varithane, let it dry overnight though not necessary, sanded next day and gave me a very smooth finish even with the oak. Never thought about another coat but I suppose would have made it smoother. No primer needed, went right to the acrylic enamel Sherwin Williams finest. Wood fibers stayed down, no need to sand first coat of paint, but I scuffed it anyway due to my OCD. On went the second coat and the finish looks awesome. Highly recommend!

I use this stuff all the time.
I do a lot of carpentry and furniture making as well as other crafts. This stuff is generally the only kind I can find. Normally I get it at Home Depot, but, for some reason they no longer carry any other size that 1 gallon, so I order it here. It's easy to use, clean up with water, dries clear, dries fast, doesn't stink horribly, and sands easily. I don't even bother looking for another brand, this works and works well.

If you need sanding sealer, buy this one.
Excellent stuff. Went on smooth, no trouble sanding.

Great for mdf thin board
Be careful with this stuff it says it is like a neuro toxin, so wear gloves and a respirator. And if you treat mdf then laser cut don't breathe those fumes and clean your equipment afterwards. But it soaks into the pores of the mdf or wood and the masking tape will work like they say.

Great for small hobbyist applications...
Works great to prep guitar bodies with a flat, even surface and helps paint adhere to the surface. I apply this AFTER pore filler for open-pore guitar bodies (mahogany, oak, paulownia).

Garbage
This stuff is NOT the sanding sealer I used to get years ago . Doesn't really penetrate, doesn't dry hard.but it did go easily into the trash can.

Not convinced it made a difference.
I believe this product is supposed to raise the grain, so you can sand it down before staining. Some of th3 type folks I follow really like it. I did the top of a two tier table with this product and the bottom shelf without it and followed with a penetrating stain. At least after one coat of stain, I cannot see much difference. Perhaps it will be more obvious with another sanding and staining coat. It was extremely easy to apply
