I first started using LED flashlights nearly 15 years ago when the technology was new, have since acquired a diverse and coveted collection. Now, as prices have come way down and the LED technology has matured, stunning lights like the Aurora series can be had found with features that used to be reserved only for $100+ torches. If you are already here, you likely know that RovyVon’s small A series lights are terrific. However, the differences between models may be mystifying at first. Let’s break down any confusion. We’ll talk about common features, differences, and what I recommend: WHAT KEY FEATURES DO ALL OF THE ROVYVON AURORA’S SHARE? BATTERY: A couple of years ago, RovyVon upgraded to a longer lasting 330mAH battery. Thus, almost all models currently available have it. Look for the round on/off switch and not the older vertical design. MEMORY FOR YOUR FAVORITE INTENSITY SETTING: Let’s clear up any confusion. Double click to turn on the light. Then click through to find your desired default intensity. Leave on for three minutes. Turn off light. Viola! It’s set. Note that the highest lumens intensity is extraordinary for a torch of this size but can only be obtained by keeping your finger down on the button. For good reason this blindingly bright setting can only be used for 30 seconds and not preset. SIDELIGHTS: This is a unique and cool RovyVon feature. The lights will come on with a triple click. Click again to cycle through brightness, blinking, etc. These lights come on just below the on/off switch and if unaware can be really a shock to the eyes. Keep your finger over them as you naturally would when typically turning on the flashlight. Depending on model, your third sidelight setting will either be a UV feature to make the light really glow beautifully in in the dark for many hours, or a red light version. However, here’s what I’ve learned re the UV advantages: On almost all of the A series models, UV won’t do any counterfeit bill or crime detection. If you need that get the A8UV. However, despite the similar physical look of this model you will give up the glow (GITD) ability. The red color in some models is more useful than I’d figured and can be used blinking, or not. The other models with UV instead of red do make the glow more quickly intense. However, you do not need this feature at all to ensure your light will glow beautifully, either short term or overnight. LUMENS: Plenty! Don’t worry about the numbers. All are exceedingly bright, whether the emitter is cooler XP-G3 CREE or warmer NICHIA 219. What’s most important to so-called pros like me is the lowest low setting, also referred to as “firefly” or “moonlight.” All current models will go down to either 2 or 3 lumens. The difference between 2 and 3 is not noticeable in real world use. That’s not as low as you’d think in the middle of the night. (More about this later.) DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MODELS: Very little indeed. At the time of this review, the $27 versions with GITD can still be found in either Nichia with red sidelight option, or Cree without the red sidelights. A tremendous value! (As is $38 for lights of this caliber.) A5 or A5X: Great! These can be found as low as $27 when the pricing is best. Same model, whether marketed as “X “or not. A8UV or A8U: Again, same light. This is the one that DOES NOT GLOW. But it has genuine UV counterfeit detection. The other models marked U or UV do not. A7X: It glows blue instead of green. Keep in mind blue looks cool but is not quite as bright. NICHIA OR NOT? With most having a free returns policy, you may want to pick up both the Cree and Nichia versions of the light you are interested in, if offered. As a pro photog, I like warmer tones yet these are not necessarily more accurate. You do get more perceived contrast with Nichia. And, again, in real world use don’t be dissuaded by 450 lumens vs. 650. That means little as you actually use your torch. I love these little gems so much I own both Nichia and Cree versions. DO YOU NEED A FLASHLIGHT THAT WILL “TAILSTAND” ? This is an area of needed improvement. You can technically get these to tail stand so they work like a candle. However, not with the clip on, and not easily. I’m planning to glue a small round magnetized disc on the bottom so my Aurora’s will now easily stand up. The Auroras are unusual in having the sidelights, so they can work like a lamp with the light oriented face down, but not at the lowest moonlight setting I covet late night. IS THE “LOW” AT 2-3 LUMENS LOW ENOUGH? No. I hope the good folks at RovyVon will adjust this down to .5 lumens like several competing brands like OLIGHT and EAGTAC. Is it a deal killer? Not for most people. But in the middle of the night 2-3 lumens actually is jarringly bright. Perfect is .5 lumens. Fingers crossed for an Aurora improvement to make a near perfect light even better. SHOULD YOU BUY ONE? Absolutely! These are the greatest and although I prefer the green glow, the blue is uniquely beatiful and is plenty easy to find in the dark. I highly recommend this series of flashlight.Much tinier than you may expect and truly just a bit bigger than a AA battery. All recent models fully charge in 90 minutes. All are profoundly excellent for the money with a better than average two year warranty, too. If this is your first LED flashlight prepare to be blown away by the brightness .If you are like many torch-heads like me, your RovyVon become a bright new “gateway drug” to starting an awesome new flashlight collecting hobby.

I own quite a few lights that I use for work. Ive owned many over the years. Until recently I never even thought to own such a small "keychain" flashlight as they were of little use other than to light up a small keyway. As LED & battery technology has made such great progess in recent years that has made this light a real practical and useful tool. 650 lumens is a lot of light in such a small package so there's plenty of output if you need it. Theres 4 selectable levels for the front led. The lowest is more like what you'd expect from an older keychain light. Levels 2 and 3 are well spaced. Level 2 is good if its very dark and you want a bit more light but don't want to be blinded. Levels 3 and 4 put out quite a bit of light for things like walking the dog or lighting a whole room. The beam is floody so its good for general area lighting. This is not a light "thrower". The light also has side lights with three leds. Two are for general lighing and are warm white and good for general close illumination for reading a trail map and such. These leds have 2 light levels and a blinky mode. They are also more battery friendly. the middle side led is a UV led which is primarily used to illuminate the glow in the dark body and store that light in the body of the light as either blue or green depending on the model. As with all glow in the dark objects, the intensity will fade over time. The uv light is cut down in intensity being inside the shell but it still casts a useable intensity. The user interface is well thought out and easy to use. I like the one press access to the brightest setting with a press hold. The light will go off after the hold is released. Two presses will bring you to the main front led modes with 4 levels of brightness from "moonlight" to 650 lumens. The light stays on in this mode at the selected brightness level until it is turned off with a press hold. Three presses brings you into the side LEDs for general area illumnation. A quick press brings you through the brightness levels and the blinky mode. Four presses lights up the UV led. A single quick press will turn this LED mode off. RovyVon makes many versions of this light to suit various tastes and uses. While the cost may seem a bit high for such a small unit, its variety of functions, versatility and quality are all there, it is a well thought out, well made, practical and useful unit in a very small package. There isn't any negative I can see with this light other than you may find yourself playing with it more than you expected. Its a fun toy as well as usefull tool. Good thing it has good battery life too ;)

VERY good flashlight. Small enough to carry in keychain but still throws bright light. Comes with a clip that allows you to affix to the bill of a baseball cap, for hands free use. It also has magnet, internal light functions, rechargeable lithium battery (that charges fast) & its body glows in the dark. Had mine for a year and gifted away 3 for Xmas this year. Not cheap for keychain flashlight, but you get what you pay for.

This is my favorite aurora light yet. I own 4 (A9Cu, A1, A4Ti, A7) and they are all great lights. The newer version has a larger battery which i greatly appreciate since that was the one downside of the older versions. I like the new button design and the controls are easy to use. This light has so many useful functions if you were to purchase only one Aurora i definitely recommend the A7 with UV light. It is ultra lightweight, super bright, and very handy! I use mine all the time as a headlight by clipping it onto my hat. It is so lightweight you can barely feel it and has more than enough brightness to see what you need to. The main light has a great beam pattern and has a great spot light that shines far. I usually use mine on medium or high to take my dog outside at night and it is more than enough light to see. On turbo i can see my horses in the field 50 yards away. It also has 2 led flood lights in the center of the light and the body of the A7 diffuses the light so they make great flood lights to read maps or find things in the car at night. If that wasnt enough it also has a UV light that can see stains on carpet or sheets and would be very useful (but probably scary) to use at hotels. The UV light also makes the body of the flashlight glow blue which is a neat feature. Also on a side note i read one review that said he left his light fully charged in a drawer and came back 2 months later and it was completely dead. That concerned me because like i said i own 4 and at least 2 stay in the drawer all the time. After reading that i tried my other Aurora's that had been left in the drawer for over a year and they still shined bright. Im sure they lost some power because all lithium ion batteries slowly discharge over time but mine still worked over a year after charging them. To sum it up if you want an Aurora the A7 with UV is the best one to get. I have a titanium version, a copper version, and a plastic verison and i definitely recommend the plastic A7 because it is less than half the weight of the metal versions. With a small flashlight like this weight matters when in your pocket or clipped to your hat or clipped to your keys. Bottom line...Buy the Aurora A7 UV. You wont regret it.

I am now on my fourth A7 from Rovyvon and have nothing but good things to say. The only reason I’ve had multiple is because I lost two of them due to my own dumb fault. The third one had the eyelet whole break after two years, so I contacted them asking about repairs, and they just sent me a new one, no questions asked!! Fantastic customer service! It’s become integral to my daily personal, and work life. The brightness is stellar for a flashlight this size. It’s even brighter than some larger lights I’ve used! If you will be using it as a constantly-on light, you might consider a larger model. But if you need it for short bursts of bright light to check on something, or a soft light when walking around at nighttime, this is the perfect light. It charges pretty quick, and can still be used when plugged in which is nice. One downside is that the metal tip can get pretty hot when you’re at the full 650 lumens for more than two minutes or so, but if you hold the plastic casing then there’s no issue. The durability of the entire light is fantastic! There is only one weak point, and that is the eyelet hole at the bottom. If you use a key ring that is a bit too big, then it will eventually wear and break. But even using it wrong, it took a long time to break. In conclusion: It’s a powerful, versatile light that can fit nicely on your person (belt loop for me) and be readily accessible for daily use. Plus, if it breaks, just email Rovyvon and they will help you out. 10/10

UPDATE 2.0 So if you read my review below you will notice several ways that I said these lights could improve. And Im super impressed the generation 4 version of this light did indeed improve serval of those things! I recently bought the gen 4 green A5...but figured rather than leaving a review on that page id update this review since its so comprehensive and all the Gen 4 lights have the same enhancements. To clarify the first review was comparing the Gen 1 version of the light to the Gen 3. There were several flaws that made the lights stink. However they fixed some of those on the Gen 4 so here are my thoughts. Here is the review in the context of the previous review focusing on differences and improvements: On 1 Size: Nothing…its the exact same On 2 Clip : They fixed the clip. The arms of the clip do “seem” to reach around the flashlight a little tighter now. (though we are talking in millimeters here so its hard to tell) Further more they made it so it clips onto a hat easier and added a magnet as well which is kind of neat. Though it does stick to my keys/kife and other things a little in my pocket so it can be slightly off putting at times. Suggested improvement: Though the magnet is sweet they could possibly include a magnet and non magnet version of the hat clip since that is not something i want to remove just avoid the magnet. Options can be nice. Also it could maybe be even a little tighter so it reaaaaalllly holds onto the flashlight. On 3 Cap: They fixed the tail cap!!!!!!!! Oh my goodness this was by far the biggest most negative aspect of the gen 3. That stupid rubber thing constantly popped off and tore and im careful with my stuff! As i mentioned it was on a curve. Not only did they switch the plug to USB C which lets the rubber hold on better…but they also created an indent for the plug area so the rubber can sit on a flat surface! (I made a whole reverse pyramid analogy before and im so happy they listened.) I used to have to rubber band the stupid thing on to keep it from being torn off. I haven’t had to do that even once on the gen 4. Further more they also were nice enough to begin including “replacement” rubber caps in the box just incase it does tear off which didnt come with any of the older models i ordered in the past. Major points!! Suggested improvement: Only way to make it better at this point is to give the bottom most part of the rubber a sort of ridge so it really POPS into place. That or induction charging but that seems too expensive and upgrade. (maybe on the Gen 7 :D ) On 4 - Modes: So they still haven’t fixed this. Medium AND high beams cant BOTH step down to the EXACT same level otherwise its pointless. This is the only critique that didnt get fixed. The only reason i can possibly see for doing that is so that the specs “look” more impressive. Id rather have a more honest light where the medium mode was less impressive but consistent than 2 modes which amount to the same thing. 5 New Tailcap: This is interesting. These lights are indeed light enough that the tail cap does actually work! Seems like it might break if you try to pop it on and off repeatedly like i did when i was testing it…getting looser every time…but otherwise seems cool. Sooooo….Ive decided to upgrade this review from 2 to 4 stars. This really is becoming the prefect EDC flashlight. Not quite "the one light to rule them all" just yet but its getting there. Making the rubber plug hole even tighter is key for EDC but i love that they fixed that. And adding magnet stuff and improving the hat clip doest give it more function so i love that they are in the right headspace. Honestly the hat clip was what started me on this company over the other mini EDC lights out there so please keep improving it. Here are a few other thoughts ive had and would love to see if they are willing. At least putting it on their idea board. A) Side lights on the A5/A7 vs the A6/A8. So for those who dont know the 5&7 are the “opaque” lights that glow in the dark and the 6&8 are the clear ones. Both versions have pros and cons but having purchased several RV’s now here are my thoughts. Id love to see these lights customizable. They do have many combinations already which does imply that that sort of thing is an easy fix in the factory stage. So why not make it so people can choose which combo of 3 lights you have. Like maybe all white side lights? Or an RBG? For me personally…the one i really want is the A6 or A8 to have a UV - Red - UV. With 3 clicks going to one and 4 clicks going to the other. Here is why. On those clear versions the “white” side lights really aren’t that useful. The white sidelights really work best on the opaque bodies because the light diffuses turning the entire thing into a mini lantern and charging the G.I.T.D body at the same time. But on the clear body its really just another slightly less amazing light that really doesnt flood at all. Red however is still nice for night vision/star gazing so being able to go directly to it as its own setting is key. As for UV that is where the clear body really shines over the opaque A5/A7. Because the waves aren’t blocked you can actually use the UV light for dollar bills, spotting filth for travelers, spotting scorpions, disinfecting surfaces etc. However it really needs a little more oomph. Dedicated uv lights often have multiple bulbs because the light itself is dim by nature. I live in a place where there are many scorpions but the ONE uv bulb isn’t quite bright enough when holding the light at waist height and scanning the ground. 2 UV’s and a RED would be sick. I haven’t purchased an A6 yet but would love to if/when i see that as an option. Id even settle for a triple UV making the A6/A8 a true dual light EDC flashlight. I have also seen knock offs of these lights with 4 side bulbs too which can give even more options! Just a final thought on ways to improve the side lights. B) Another possible improvement for the side lights…is that they put that clear plastic bubble looking lens on top of the filament itself. See the nightcore keychain lights for more clarification. That could really help the spread of the side lights on the clear bodied versions. C) Third the orange peal reflector. They seem to be waffling back and forth on this one. Basically it comes down to…do you want your beam to travel further or to spread the light out more? Personally…i think the body should determine the answer. The A6/A8 need the orange peal reflector because their side lights suck at actually doing floodlight. (Unless they did the bubble lens thing mentioned above). However the A5/A7 should definitely have the smooth distance reflector since the side lights make the thing into a flooding side lantern. D) Lastly...like victorinox or other companies which sell replacement products or refills...RovyVon should make the selling of replacement products a thing. For exmaple: if i had an A8 but wanted to put an A6 glow in the dark plug cover on it i could buy one. Or maybe my plug cover just keeps getting lost or may hat clip is lost or i want to purchase a non magnetic hat clip. I think it would be pretty clever to sell those things separately as well. Since we are talking function here odds are the price might go up for any of these improvements. But then Im willing to pay that price for a light that can do it all and still fit on my keys. Im sure others will agree especially since there are cheaper RV’s you can buy if thats your main concern. Hopefully RovyVon continues to take advice and improve their product. I love companies like this that do that sort of thing. Thanks again for all your hard efforts. ————————————————— Comprehensive Review Comparison UPDATE!: So the newer lights have a new button shape/design and a new rubber stopper hole. And they both suck! Im convinced rovy von made them worse to get the light to break so you have to buy a new one. Like a product having no defects so return customers were sparse. The rubber thing that holds the charge port closed was just gone one day. Im super gentle with it too. But it always poped itself open. Even worse than that the button jammed after like its 10th use or so. All i did was turn on the black light and then turn it off. And the thing got fully jammed now it won't turn on at all unless i push down on the button super hard. Sadly that makes accessing the 3 and 4 press button functions next to impossible to access. For a while i couldn't even turn the thing off i just had to let the battery die. I am so disappointed. This is the classic "dont fix what isn't broken" scenario. None of my older model rovy vons had this problem and i was pretty harsh on those cheaper ones. So this is my second rovyvon light. So some of this review will be comparative. My first light was the gen1 aluminum A3 that only had 130mAh battery. 1. Is size & battery. Pro: 330mAh is awesome. Almost 3x what i had before. NOW this light is more legit. Before it died too fast to be a true EDC survival light. Now this one is "close". (Ill share how to improve at the end of the review.) Con: It got fatter! The old light was closer to .56" and ALL of the newer lights of this size are .61" (im ignoring length because this isnt the upgraded A3 or A3 pro.) This extra girth might be unavoidable to to the extra mAh...however it is a slight bummer as the new light doesnt fit as well in my WAZOO survial belt. 2. The clip Con Only: So they got fatter but the clips arent longer to compensate! They didnt improve how long the grip clamp part is ( I measured.) Though they did improve the clip to clothing part it seems. However The clip needs to wrap "most" of the way around. Honestly it only needs like 2mm to be perfect again. For a light this small and expensive I cant trust how well it clips on. On the old smaller light the clip held on so well it was almost hard to pull off which is great. So this is a HUGE oversight! 1/2 star off for this 3. The USB cover Con Only: So this is another huge minus for these newer lights. Im not sure why but they moved the usb port to the curved side of the light. And now its super loose and flimsy. Not sure if that has to do with the hole being on a curve now instead of a flat surface or what, but before it was wonderfully tight. In fact if the tab part ever broke off i would have to dig the cover out with a pin, which doesnt sound good but it is! This one however i barely scratch it and it falls out of the hole. If you cant do the trapezoid math thing then put it back on the flat side. A full star off for this. WORST PART OF THE LIGHT 4. The modes. Pro: They added a moonlight mode. Combined with bigger battery pushes this light into the survival levels! (66hrs is sweet) Pro: The side functions are great! It allows for very diffuse light giving this more functions. Also I live in AZ half the time so scorpions are a real issue. So having a UV function is super nice. Con: The Lie! So it states the light modes are 3Lm/66hr, 25Lm/10h,r 400Lm/150min, & 650/75min. LIARS! In super hidden writing it states that the light steps down to 100Lm after it gets "too hot". So in truth its a 440/650Lm light for 2 min Then its actually a 100Lm light for that 90-150 min range. I hate deception. However that is closish to an ideal range. More thoughts below. 1/2 star off for this So 2 stars but soooo close to a full 5. So as a lover of O-light, nightcore, and luminotop how does Rovyvon stack up? In truth they are probably the closest at mastering a true keychain edc survival flashlight. (This includes those brands mentioned as they mostly focus on the larger lights and neglect innovations in the keychain realm). So Rovyvon is just short on a few points. ((Im adding this part because Rovyvon seems to be the type of company that is always trying to improve which I appreciate! So hoping they read this part and take it to their idea boards )) What constitutes a true EDC light for me is: Size, Waterproof, Length and Lumens of the light. Size: This is where they are the closest. Even if they cant shrink it back down as long as they fix the clip c-clamp length and make it hold to the light tighter then they are golden. A few mm on each side would be enough. Better to be hard to take on and off than for it to pop off easily. Waterproof: The biggest con of these lights is hands down the "lack" of waterproofness. EDC means I have this flashlight with me everywhere I go. That includes unexpected circumstances like getting caught in the rain, sweat, dirt, accidently dropping it in the toilet or sending it through the wash, etc. If i have it on me all the time and not just in my camping/hunting bag then all those things become far more likely. The best fix would be for them to find a cheap induction system to incorporate into the lights and seal the whole thing shut. Barring that expensive track they need to devote more time into the usb plug. It needs to be tighter and maybe also have a secondary ridge that "pop"s into a hidden groove on the light or something. Heck they could even include a custom tight rubber band you strap over the flimsy cover in the mean time and it would be better than it is now. The best comparable light I can think is the nitecore thumb 85Lm. It has a similar plug system but has the extra ridge that really pops it into place. Even if it uses more real-estate on the light it would be worth it for the higher peace of mind. Function should always take precedence over look. Lumens and Time: So this fix is actually pretty easy. Leave moonlight, low, and high exactly as they are, including the temporary tactical high push and hold function for defense reasons thing it has. All they have to do is change the Medium. After all what is the point in having TWO modes that both step down. Might as well not even have one. Sooooo leave the turbo as is in its fancy mega bright for a short time realm and change the medium. The perfect medium light to me is in the 120-150 lumen range...so its already close! That range isnt that hot either so there is no reason it should step down. Thats the other big thing, it has to STAY at 150 lumens for the full 90min. If they could make it 150Lm/90min combined with how the other modes are set up then they'll have fully mastered this category. The only other thing I can think of is they need to include the orange peal reflector on all their lights not just the newer A3 pros. This light has good throw but could use that extra scattering of light as the beam is a little narrow. Not a huge issue since it has the side lights for room light up but it would be nice to have both.

Love the small light weight and power of the flashlight. Had a issue with it and contacted customer service and they replaced it and was very on top of it. Definitely would recommend if your looking for a compact powerful light with a backing from the company.
