When I was in high-school, I went through all of Halliday Resnik 3RD EDITION and solved ALL of its problems and questions. I bought this for my son thinking about all the great deep questions and discussions this book made me think about. To my surprise I found this edition a very utilitarian and uninspiring text (albeit with better quality color pictures). I thought maybe I am reminiscing and glorifying a version of my experience that I never actually had. So I went back and bought a used 4th edition and sure enough, all those great deep discussions were there and although the figures and analogies were those of late 80s, I (and my son) started enjoying the real deal. I don’t know why they felt that this was necessary (well, probably some corporate folks thinking how to justify selling more copies of the same book). A definite downgrade from the early editions. Overall, disappointed in the edition but a great original book.

I wasn't sure if I was going to like this book. . It came loose leaf, so I put it in a bunch of folders, color coding them by each semester in my Physics classes. . I found this a while lot easier to study from, than the digital version, as I could peruse and study, not needing another screen and the burden of hauling another device around. . I found the explanations very good, the example problems voluminous, and since the odd answers are in the book, there are plenty for you to check your answers on. . Very happy with purchase.
