How we got from Dixon of Dock Green's issuing revolvers to beat coppers with a military background to today's specialised resources and tactics, learning on the job, press misrepresentation and lies, mistakes, thinking on their feet, foul ups and successes, bravery, foolishness, technology and why it's needed. History and finances, risk and consequences and some very brave professionals, men and women. A fantastic insight into the subject. Highly recommended.

Congratulations to Steve for stepping up to the mark and producing such an interesting book.  Again I am biased as I worked with Steve who I count as a valued friend.  I had to keep reading this book, it brought back memories and is a wonderful account of not only how the department developed into nineteen but also shows some of the extremes that the police have had to encounter over the years.  He provides the detail that is not always reported, along with some sound reasoning behind the events.  As stated this is but a fraction of all the incidents over the years.  It is a book to be proud of.  I have copies for my sons for Christmas, it will help explain what we did and why we were not always at home and the many times we left home, without warning, to go to work.
