A pretty journal: good quality, with numbered pages!
I've been using this journal over a year now, and really love it. It still looks awesome on the outside... and on the inside, well, there you'd find my private thoughts and artwork. I use this notebook exclusively with fountain pen inks... a variety of inks. Usually there's no bleed through. Occasionally there is. As an artist, my challenge is to make the bleed through situations into something beautiful. I find that to be a lot of fun... so am staying positive and not complaining. This is a great notebook for writing in. There's an index of several pages at the beginning, and the pages are numbered, so it is perfect for use as a bullet journal or writer's journal, or whatever you like. The pages seem kind of thin, but still good quality. I have other bullet journals with thicker pages. But it is what it is and either you like it for what it is or you don't. I would not hesitate to buy another journal like this one, when this is full. However - if I was to do it again, I wouldn't limit myself just to fountain pen ink in this journal. Probably there are other pens that would be better for this one, like the Staedtler Triplus Fineliner Pens which are bright and beautiful and will not bleed through. (I just tried them on my pen check page at the back of the notebook, and they are perfect for this thickness and quality of paper. The cover of my Leuchtturm 1917 is hardcover, and the color is pink... what they call berry. It is so pretty. I'm glad I bought this one. It comes with the elastic, as pictured, and there's a nice sturdy pocket on the inside back cover. I've found it very handy for smaller items I pick up during my travels. The endpapers are white... a sort of creamy white. Everything about this notebook journal speaks quality. I've used this as a travel journal, for recording quotes, and as a memoir journal, using a prompt book. I'm not using it for my daily observations of life, though it could be that type of journal if need be. I do a lot of ink painting in this journal. I use the same inks I put into my fountain pens - Noodlers Inks in a variety of colors, and De Atramentis® Document Ink . I've also used the Pilot Varsity Disposable Fountain Pens in this journal. It does well with all, but as you can imagine, if I put on the ink too thickly there's that risk of bleed through... so I've learned how much to use, and how much I can get away with layering it before the ink goes through the paper. It is a learning process. Recently I used a pen with a medium nib, and that bled through. Not good... and usually I use the extra-fine nibs which are better for preventing bleed through. Not a problem though - I turned the page and used the bleed-through page to create a bit of art using fountain pen ink applied by water brushes. I like the way it turned out even with the bleed through - it became part of the art. So, if you're looking for a good quality notebook with thin paper... numbered, with an index and pocket, this could be the right journal for you. I recommend it. I like all the colors, especially the berry pink which is so, so pretty. No complaints from me.

Excellent quality with superb value
Like a lot of other people on here, I've been using Moleskine notebooks of different sizes for many years. But I saw someone talk about these and I was wanting to try something different. These notebooks are very nice and offer the same quality as the Moleskine alternatives. Beyond that, when you compare prices for comparably size notebooks, the Leuchtturm1917 seems to offer a lot of value for the money considering how many pages you get. I like the color options of these notebooks. I'm a photographer, writer and content maker, and I like to use different color books for each thing I write about whether it's content creation ideas, story/book ideas and details, personal thoughts or whatever. Right now, I've got six of these in all different colors. Hopefully the colors will be around for a while so I can keep up a consistent theme. I like that the pages are numbered and that the paper is acid free, so there's more longevity to the pages if I hang onto the books for a while. There's a bit of bleed through with my favorite Pilot G2 pens, but not much. I was using fine point Sharpie pens, but there's much more bleedthrough with those. I like the Pilot pens much better for writing in these. You get a few perforated pages that you can tear out. Maybe those are for a grocery list or handing off a list to someone else, but I really don't use those pages. Overall, I like these notebooks a lot and plan on stacking up some more to use down the road. They offer great bang for the buck with quality on par with the best.

I Plan to Purchase This Again and Again
This lovely notebook arrived in the mail on time. It had been sitting in the mailbox for three days in the summer (I will spare you the irrelevant backstory) and had one of those shrink wrap covers on it. It was hot, so I decided to run some water over it because it was hot in the house already and I did not want to write on hot paper. Turns out the shrink wrap was not sealed, and the outer sides of the pages got a bit wet, and the page markers were wet as well. I tried not to freak out, tried to dry it a bit, and closed it, laying it flat on a dresser with a heavy box on top of it. After drying, each page was like new. There was no sign that the book ever had a drop of water on it! Now, the book itself is wonderful. I cannot help but run my hands over the smooth and textured cover from time to time. There is no obvious logo in the front, which is very nice. I have not felt anything like this texture, but then again, that is just me. It is like pebbled leather, except smoothed over. Each page is oh so smooth and thick enough for no bleed through but thin enough for you to see what was on the previous page, which I am not bothered by in the least. The two page markers are very handy. The other notebooks I have purchased were either nice on the outside but boring with thick, rough pages or just not convenient due to size. This book is just right and the best notebook I have had. This is my new favorite notebook, and I have had it for...about a month now, I believe. I want to get two other blank ones in yellow and emerald, since plain versions of other colors are either not available (as far as I can see) or too expensive, and after I get those, I will likely repurchase the same colors over and over. I have yet to own a notebook, especially for journaling, that is classy looking, smooth, and high quality. I think I will only be purchasing this notebook for journaling and planning for some time.

The Perfect Notebook
As a heavy fountain pen user, I’m picky about paper as a necessity. I’ve found the paper in these notebooks to be the perfect balance of weight (80g) without worrying excessively about bleed or ghosting (a horrendous problem with Moleskine notebooks), and the paper not feeling too slick or glass-like to write on like the heavier 90g Rhodia paper. I’ve also had far fewer problems with stops and starts than on any other paper. An absolute joy to write in. This is a little subjective I know; I prefer a bit of feedback when I write. Even then, writing in this notebook is a smooth experience. However it can depend on personal preference, what ink you use, and how much pressure you write with when holding a pen. I will say that I’ve written with a couple of different inks, steel and gold nibs in a variety of sizes ranging from extra fine to broad. I’ve never had a problem with any of them whether they were wet or dry. The cover of the notebook is very sturdy and can take a bit of a beating. Unlike other notebooks I’ve had with elastic bands, this one still has plenty of spring left even after two years of regular use. It’s virtually the same as when I bought it. The back pocket is also very useful for when I make notes elsewhere. I can slip them in there for transcribing later on. Some of the biggest selling points to me, beyond what I’ve mentioned so far, are the included faceplate and spine labels which are nice when you write as much as I do; it really helps to be able to find notebooks for a certain time period quickly. The inclusion of a blank index on the first couple of pages is a godsend as well. All in all, the perfect notebook with a lot of nice and useful touches and some of the finest paper made on this planet. Can’t recommend it enough. If I were to complain about anything it would be that I wish the lines (or dots depending on which you choose) were a bit darker. That said, it’s never been a problem. Do yourself a favor and get one of these. It’ll be the last notebook you’ll ever need.

The perfect fit for all your writing needs
This is it: the perfect notebook. I've meandered my way through notebook territory many times before, with plenty of mixed results. I'm a sucker for cute journals, fancy diaries, and composition notebooks, and I've dipped my toe into Moleskine waters often enough to say that I wish I could figure out what the big deal is. A desire to start a bullet journal mixed with a preexisting love of jotting down pretty much everything led me to the Leuchtturm. Just like that, all those dozens and dozens of notebooks I have floating around my home and office are now pretty much obsolete. With the Leuchtturm, you get an incredibly well-made product that outdoes Moleskine big time. I carry mine around in my purse, which is a dangerous black hole to begin with, and the Leuchtturm comes out well and whole every time. It has nice thick paper that acts as a beautiful host to any kind of pen you prefer to write with. I personally took the plunge into fountain pen territory and can't believe I ever lived without the brilliant duo of fountain pen + this awesome notebook. Staedtlers also work wonderfully with this paper. No matter what your preferences are, he high quality of the paper alone makes writing and journaling a joy. Other little things that impress me with this notebook: the two differently colored bookmarks (so very useful, no matter what you use this notebook for); the durable pocket at the back of the notebook; the nicely effective elastic that keeps the cover closed and anything I want to tuck inside the notebook safely stowed. And let's not forget the built-in index pages! If you haven't tried indexing your journal/notebook before, hold onto your seat, because it's a game-changer. As far as price goes, you're definitely getting what you pay for and then some. I'll never fall into the trap of buying more Moleskine notebooks just because they look so cute on their shelf at the local bookstore. the Leuchtturm is super durable and much bigger than it first appears, so you'll definitely get some great mileage out of it. I'm actually kind of anxious to write a little bit more so I can buy myself a gorgeous pink one next time :)

I've heard so many great things about this notebook
I've heard so many great things about this notebook. I love my Moleskine 2016 calendar but hate it has so many unnecessary pages I just won't use. I spent a little more and ordered the Leuchttrum for home, family and side business tasks. Although not a structured calendar, I prefer it that way for more freedom to plan as I need to. This book will be a bullet journal type planner. I'm still trying to perfect planner peace, which I don't think really exists. :-) I've read how the pages are great and do not bleed. I was sure my favorite Uniball Signo would be fine since so many use Sharpee pens and various flare tips pens, like Paper Mate Flair Felt Tip Medium pens. Well, sadly my favorite pen bleeds. I don't think it will bother me too much bc I'm used to it with the Moleskine paper, which is MUCH thinner. I do have 0.5 tip Signo pens that I will try when they arrive. What I have in the picture is the basic 0.7. Also, I did notice that the Signo pen smeared a little. This pen generally doesn't smear, so although liveable that was sad to see. As a whole, I am supper happy with the purchase. The paper is super smooth and has a nice sweet smell to it. I assume the smell will fade, but for now, I will be the nerd who sniffs her book. I would have probably stuck with a blank or dotted Moleskine bc of price, but I love that the Leuchttrum has 249 pages. Being numbered pages that I can easily index in the front without manually numbering them, helped the decision. I also love that there are two ribbon bookmarks, which I was hoping to see. When I first opened the book, a few of the index pages were stuck together in the top corner. They easily pulled a part without tearing. It looked like they just got stuck in the cutting processes. For the number of pages, the overall size and weight of the notebook is perfect. I used to use a travelers notebook with numerous inserts that weighed down my purse drastically. Although, this was my planner peace having it everything. At my fingertips all times, I just can't carry the added weight and bulk daily, which defeated the purpose to not have it on me. I do wish the price was better, but the Amazon price of $19.49 was the best I found for a hardcover. If anything drastic changes in my opinion, I will update this review.

smooth, archival paper, no major bleeding. VERY similar to Moleskine.
I've been using MOLESKINE books for about 15 years now, and the LEUCHTTURM1917 books are nearly identical to MOLESKINE brand books. If you are used to using those, you will find these to be a comparable value. One thing I did like about the LEUCHTTURM books is they have more pages, or at least the ones I bought were easier to find with more pages than MOLESKINE. THe paper is good archival quality, and using my standard assortment of pens from a generic Pilot G2 ballpoint to fine nib fountain pens with custom ink, the paper is smooth and easy to write on, and I have not noticed any significant bleeding. Overall I'm satisfied with the quality of the book, but I would say I guess that maybe they could do something to set this brand apart from the better known competitors. There are too many of these brands all doing the same thing these days.

Good journals
These are easy to use. The binding doesn't fall apart and the pages don't fall out. Mine stay open on the table most of the time, but they stay closed without showing any signs that they were kept open. Paper is perfect thickness for jotting notes and turning easily. I like the dot design, the page numbers, and index in the front. The cost is well worth the organization assistance I receive from these journals. Yeah, I could get cheaper notebooks, but these are more convenient and useful.
