Toni Yuly knows how to communicate with the very young...and with us, the very old! The drawings are simple, yet vibrant, and clearly hallmark the characters, in this case the Early Bird and Early Worm along with ladybugs, a cat, and other playful creatures. When I first read it to her, I was afraid of how the early bird would catch the worm! What a relief it was to see them both enjoying breakfast on a big, juicy strawberry! A lesson on sharing! My eight month old loves the pictures, loves turning the boardbook pages, and loves to hear the simple narrative. It's an absolutely delightful book, and I intend to buy all of them by Toni Yuly! Review: My kids loved this book - This was one of the first story books with a "plot" that we read our kids. The bright illustrations and the rhythm of the story makes it a book that never got old. We would probably read it 50 times in one day sometimes. From the age of about...7 months to almost 2 years...my kids were a huge fan of this.

Sweet story
My 17 month old loves birds and loves this book. I love the little "twist" to the story. No spoilers, but it's sooo cute. I also love that it's seemingly deliberately teaching prepositions that aren't as commonplace in a lot of the kids books we have (e.g., up, over, under, across, around).

Cute but light on Text
Cute, but text was short and simple. One of those baby books that takes 2 minutes to read. Thought it was adorable that when ‘the early bird catches the worm’ they share a strawberry together.

Perfect for story time
This wonderful little book is perfect for toddler story time because the art is child friendly with bright colors and a size easy to see from across a room full of kids or from the bedside as Mom or Dad reads it. The words are simple, in large print, and deal with every day things a young child can relate to. Even the worm ends up happy, so no upsetting questions for a parent to deal with at bedtime or for a soothing interlude with their child. I think this would also be a great book for early childhood educators to begin introducing the concept of picking out letters and sounding out words to little ones. It is a delightful story, perfect for short attention spans, and easily understood. The early bird is very likeable.

Daughter loves Toni Yuly books, especially Cat Nap. ...
Daughter loves Toni Yuly books, especially Cat Nap. It was her gateway book. She likes early bird too, although there is a plot twist that I did not see coming that is not entirely believable, but it is an enjoyable book to read. Buy it. And Cat Nap, and Night Owl.

My grandson's favorite book
My 20 month old grandson loves this book and has since he was about 3 months old. We lost our first copy a couple of months ago, so I bought another. When he came over and saw it in the book basket, he shouted "birdie!", picked it up, and took it to Grandpa to read and re-read. This is definitely his favorite book, and he was so happy to have it back!
