Maytag and ge black top gas range
Wish I had known about this stuff years ago.... I have been cleaning with powdered bleach, oven cleaners, dish soap and elbow grease for years. I was usually able to get it mostly clean but the burnt on spots and stains would slowly expand over the years and make my range look horrible, I could never get it clean. Anyway to make a long story short our ge range broke so we went out and bought a Maytag but before we had them take away our ge range I wanted to test out other methods of cleaning it so I had bought this kit. I was nervous about using the blade scraper because I assumed it would scratch the top if not used properly and wanted to see how hard I could push on the ge. It was a miracle, burnt on stains and layers of who knows what scraped off with no scratches and I pushed bloody hard... We are talking YEARS of burned on crap came off with the scraper, alone that was worth it but the cleaner really was awesome. It bonded to the grease and allow me to buff out the residuals, took lots of time and effort but I actually got the top 99% clean. I then used the polish and the top (aside from the burners and grates) literally looked like we just got it. It was fantastic. I just recently used it on my new maytag with the same results, I no longer fear spills and worrying about burning those spills. Again I really wish I knew about this stuff years ago, especially the scraper.

This product got me out of the dog house!
"If you must regress to your childhood and make Jiffy Pop, don't do it on our glass cooktop," my wife yelled from the bedroom. Dutifully, I tried to obey. The cooktop burner already looked hazed from years of use, but I swirled the Jiffy Pop about a half-inch over the burner anyway. Not much was happening. I swirled closer and closer to the burner. Finally, I was swirling directly on the cooktop. After all, how noticeable would a few more scratches be on top of the already dulled surface? After the glow of eating the Jiffy Pop had subsided, I went back to the kitchen like a guilty dog to inspect the damage. The burner did look a bit worse than it had before I committed my crime, but I was pretty sure my wife wouldn't notice. I went back to the den to watch more TV. Sometime later I woke to the sound of my wife calling from the kitchen, "Did you cook Jiffy Pop on the cooktop?" "No!" I lied, and I proceeded to walk into the kitchen with my best 'Ralphie of Christmas Story' look of puzzlement and concern. "That's just haze from cooked-on food and normal wear and tear," I said. "Uh-huh," she replied. I further mansplained by telling her that a good for-purpose cleaner and a little elbow grease would have the cooktop looking like new. "I look forward to you showing me," she said. So off I went to the internet for help. This product works exactly as claimed by others that have given it positive reviews on Amazon. Rather than go into another lengthy explanation of how to use it, I suggest you read the advice given by others below. Also, in the spirit of full disclosure, I will add that after I had done the best I could using this kit, I consulted one of those "how-to" websites and found a remedy involving baking soda and vinegar. Applying this technique improved the results even further (at least in my case). My wife is absolutely delighted with the restored cooktop. As you can (maybe) see from the attached photo, there is still some slight discoloration on the burner. However, using forensic techniques and logic I was able to convince my wife that this was not the result of the Jiffy Pop affair (as it has become known in the Johnson household). I also purposely included the reflection of the cleaner bottle and ceiling chandelier in the photo so that you can get a sense of the quality of the restoration. Needless to say, I highly endorse this product!

DON'T GIVE UP!
This kit is AWESOME! BUT, you have to figure out how to use it. Once you figure it out, you will NOT be able to do without it. I bought a new glass top Whirlpool range about 6 weeks ago and while I was out running errands on day one of its arrival, my husband used it and appeared to scratch one of the burners. I was DEVASTATED. This product was recommended by the manufacturer and I was pleased to find good reviews on Amazon. When it arrived, I used the cooktop cleaner which worked wonderfully and dried to a brilliant shine BUT the scratch was still present. I then used the protectant which left a smeary mess and was quite disappointing. In fact, even though I didn't use much, the cloudiness was so bad that I thought I had made things WORSE, not better. After using some water, I eventually worked it in and much to my surprise, the scratch was MUCH LESS noticeable. Even so, it seemed to take a LOT of work and at that point, I was thinking that the glass top decision was a mistake because it was going to be waaaay too labor intensive. SOOOO glad I didn't give up (well, I had no choice). After a day or two, I figure it out and NOW my glass top looks just as beautiful as the day it arrived and I have absolutely ZERO fears about spills or cleaning the top. It is true that the more you protect, the easier it gets to clean. Here's what I did/do: Use the cleaner, scrubber and razor to clean the cooktop. DON'T BE AFRAID. I know using the scrubbers and the razor blade seems counter intuitive and you think you'll scratch the surface, but you won't! The razor blade is ESSENTIAL to keeping the glass top looking smooth and gorgeous! I think what people are seeing when they say "pitted" are actually micro spots that have been cooked on. Gently using the razor blade WITH the cleaner will gently scrub those off. I found it easier to do WITH the cleaner (which does a great job of softening even the most baked on stuff). Then use the sponge to smooth to a super shine. Once the cooktop is clean, I put just a small drop of protectant on each burner and a little spot in the middle and then use a dry paper towel to rub it in across the entire stove top. It will probably leave streaks so don't panic! The longer I have used the protectant, the less "streaky" the residue but it's still a little streaky... After you rub the protectant in with a dry paper towel, get a clean paper towel. Using a spray bottle, spray just a little water on the cooktop and (in small sections) dry to a shine. INITIALLY, TIHS WILL TAKE SOME TIME BUT IT GETS BETTER. At first, it probably took my a good 5-10 minutes to put the protectant on (I know that doesn't seem like a lot but who wants to spend 10 minutes cleaning an "easy to clean" cooktop everyday?). Now that my glass top is "protected" AND I know what to do, I get it done in a minute or two. ALSO, when I FIRST started to protect, I put protectant on everyday for about 3 days, then I switched to once a week for the next couple of weeks and now I am just doing it once a month. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO USE PROTECTANT EVERY DAY. We cook all the time but I only use the cleaner once a day at the end of the day if we've had a lot of spillage, otherwise we just wipe up the stove top with a damp washcloth and keep it moving but even when I use the cleaner, spills come up a lot easier as time has passed. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy! More work upfront but definitely worth it! Because of this product, I have fallen in love with my cook top all over again!

Works for sparkling tops
Great products that work. The scraper tackles old residue very efficiently.

The cleaner is superior; buy it alone and skip the kit
I've used this cooktop cleaner before, and it does a spectacular job. It removes even dried-up grime (with some elbow grease) and leaves my cooktop gleaming. However, the other things in this kit (cooktop protectant and various cleaning pads) are not helpful. The protectant doesn't appear to do anything. And you don't need special pads; paper towels work just fine. Next time I'll buy just the cleaner.

Great kit to introduce you to the products you'll depend on for your ceramic cooktop
Absolutely 5 stars across the board. I'm thrilled with this kit. Only got my ceramic cooktop a few weeks ago, but it didn't take long to get a few burned on stains and scratches, no matter how careful I was. The kit comes with the cleaner, the protectant, little square cleaner sponges and a polishing cloth. Have used cleaner a few times and it's removed all scratches and stains. Used the protectant twice and it's left a beautiful protective finish on my cooktop. To those who gave very low ratings? Personally, I don't think you used the product correctly.

Works Well on Stained Gas Stove Top
Our Sears gas range top has been in daily use for over two years. It has never really looked clean or new in part because of the grease stains. This product got almost all of them on the first application. This box contains cleaning pads, a razor blade scrapper and a smaller bottle of the Whirlpool W10355051 10-Ounce Affresh Cooktop Cleaner available on Amazon as well. Taken together it is a nice starter kit. I used the Whirlpool 31463A 8-Ounce Cooktop Protectant on the places I cleaned the best and after using the stove for eggs and bacon the stove top was easily wiped clean with a damp dishrag. I highly recommend Whirlpool's cooktop and stainless steel products - they are first to work for me and I will be telling our friends.

Good for Vigilant Cooks
I was trying to fix a stovetop in the house we bought that had white discoloration on black glass. No joy. It did remove all the casual spots, but not the damage the previous owner caused. I'm giving it 2 stars because it did perfect my 11 year old glass cooktop. I used the right pots and pans and cleaned up every spill as I saw it. I still had some little tiny spots regular cleaners couldn't get rid of. This did. I only tried it on the cooktop in my old house because it wasn't working on the new house's damaged top. If you have taken care of your glass cooktop but it has some spots you just can't get, try this. If your cooktop has big areas of damage, this won't help.
