Competitive "value" buy for the bigger brands to consider
I was skeptical at first that this would carry the same features / quality of the bigger brand action cameras - side by side comparisons show very few differences. I must say so far I am blown away (though still in the early testing phases). Photos are magnificent, with just a few in the "blur" category that could be quickly discarded. Video appears to be stable - I've yet to do any post editing, but looks good as is. I don't use audio internal/external (or haven't yet) but I do know in case all audio functions are off - which is not surprising but worth point out. The quality of the case and just amazing amounts of attachments right out of the box was the real surprise. I do think that's probably where smaller brands have issues competing with the big boys. I do think if you're using something every day for action footage / underwater use, and trying to post frequently to a media site you may end up with quicker wear / tear - but it does what it says for my purposes. Kept the water out / a couple of drops with no terrible scuffing and dents - and again, mount it to your bike, helmet, tripod - with multiple attachments and ways to attach for each (in / out of case; front mount helmet; top mount; bike low / bike bar). I plan to really TEST it this week - putting it through the rigors and testing battery life, but first impressions are often most important - will update with battery life and any glaring concerns. I must admit at a quarter of the cost of mid-tier (offering less specs no less) / a tenth of the cost of the pro-tier (same specs)...so far, its really incredible value! If others want to stay relevant - they might want to pick up some design / cost pointers from Akaso.

Solid Action Camera that Doesn't Break Your Wallet
I needed an action camera to take underwater shots in Hawaii and wasn't planning to spend a huge amount of money for one (eg. GoPro), so I settled on the V50X based on its solid specs. and great reviews. Overall, I was pretty satisfied with this camera, and given its versatility and the quality of pictures it can generate under harsh or atypical conditions, it will be added to my backpack for my next outdoor adventure. Pros: 1.) Clear and crisp underwater images. All I needed was a non-blurry selfie with dolphins and the V50X delivered. I was also able to take images while filming, so this feature was also a plus. 2.) I had the water proof housing on the camera most of the time even when it wasn't under water, but it didn't take long for me learn how to operate the camera using buttons as it was pretty intuitive. The touchscreen was responsive and easy to use. 3.) A lot of settings and features you can control, such as the timestamp and whole lot of features that I don't yet understand. 4.) I didn't bother taking nighttime photos with this, but where there is a lot of light, this camera performs to the max. Great for landscape photos and a good substitute for my mirrorless camera when I am too lazy to take it out. 5.) Extra housing door and extra battery helps a lot! Cons: Not much, but here are a few. 1.) I took a lot of videos with the waterproof housing on without knowing that the sound will be significantly muffled. As a result, the sound from the playback of my above-water video was hard to hear. It would have been a plus for Akaso to inform the user of the sound attenuation when operating with the waterproof case. 2.) The latching part of the housing cover is thin and may be brittle. But an extra housing cover is included in this package, which is a plus, but make sure that the the cover is fully locked in before going underwater.

Great camera at a good price, Very poor app
I'm new to the world of action cameras, so I'm just getting my feet wet, so to speak. I tried my hand with one several years ago and I was in for a huge surprise. This camera is quite an improvement in technology. I had been looking at a couple of brands other than Akaso, and at a couple of models other than the Akaso V50 X. I'm very pleased with my choice. I should explain that my primary goal is to have videos of my grandchildren: I'm not participating in extreme sports. I also have a background in still photography. I know that there are cameras with extended feature sets or more impressive specs than the Akaso, but for the price, and for my needs, the Akaso V50x fits the bill. Here's what impressed me: Build quality for the price. Quality of the videos that it took. Great image stabilization. Excellent array of accessory items included. Spare battery included. Clearly laid out touch screen menu. Not so great: The Akaso DV app doesn't connect at all. I've used two Google Pixels (a Pixel 2 and Pixel 3XL) and Samsung S7. Also, the Akaso V50 X doesn't appear in the opening choices. Sound seems muted (I did purchase the external mic (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07XDPMD3T?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title) which improved things significantly. Support literature is vague and not well written. Note to manufacturers: if you make the best made product in the world, but your user guide doesn't explain how and why to use a function, it becomes useless. Spend some time having a native speaker review user guides and instruction. It takes far too much searching to find and install firmware versions. A suggestion: Although I probably won't use the underwater housing much, I would like a lens cap. I thought it would be good if Akaso offered a video editing app. I know there are good ones out there, but I like end-to-end solutions, and would be willing to pay for the convenience. I understand that this camera is made to hit a price point, but it could be offered as an accessory. End-to-end solutions is what makes Apple so successful. In sum, the Akaso V50X is a camera that performs well, is well made, has a number of useful accessories, and is priced well. The app needs a serious revision, and attempting a firmware upgrade is equally bad. While the negatives don't lessen the overall impression of this camera, a couple of improvements would go a long way.

Forget GoPro, go with the AKASO!!
The AKASO was simple as it gets to set up. You can use the documentation that comes with it, or just play with it, as it is quite intuitive for use. I set it up for motovlogging with both the 1080p @ 90 fps and then at 2k @30fps. The video quality is amazing! The stabilization is better than the GoPro6 black. The external microphone picks up voice very clear even when riding at 80+mph. Very little wind noise is picked up in my helmet. Everything about this action camera was better or easier to use than my 2 GoPro cameras. I am still playing with this and figuring out which configurations I like, but the quality cannot be beat, especially at the price point. You are getting FAR MORE than what you pay for with this! The manufacturer even provided an extended year of warranty for free on this camera. After the first ride with the camera, I didn't like the way it was mounted and flipped the camera upside down. It automatically flipped the view screen and recorded right-side up. I love this camera! As far as the battery...I recorded for 2hrs and 15 minutes before I received a low battery warning. So, if I get that from both batteries I cannot complain about recording for 4.5 hrs. I drilled holes in the waterproof case to run the external mic and to run constant power to the camera (kind of a battery bypass). Not waterproof any more but I don't do underwater and won't be recording in the rain. The camera came with a basic assortment of GoPro style mounting accessories and arms. I read some complaints on many features for this camera, including the external mic but I have to say that everything is absolutely perfect with this action camera! Perhaps all the bugs have been worked out. You are wasting money if you spend 4 to 5x more for a GoPro. Buy the AKASO V50X and be thrilled!

Great value
I have been wanting an action camera for a while but could not justify the cost of a GoPro or similar. I really wanted one for an upcoming backpacking trip and saw this camera was on sale, so I decided to take a risk. So far I have been happy with the purchase. The quality of the camera, images, video have been better than I would expect at this price point. The number and quality of the included accessories are also very good. I have used it to take some underwater images/video of my koi pond and they turned out great. I took it on my backpacking trip where I took some images and a LOT of video. I like that it came with two batteries and while I was initially concerned about the battery life it actually worked well for my 4 day trip (used both batteries and recharged one battery once during the trip). The image stabilization is not prefect but is more than good enough for my needs. I wish the camera would not record the sound of pressing the buttons and/or the beeps it makes, but that is a minor thing that I can edit out later and maybe I should be using the remote more. The operation took a little bit to get used to, but once I did, it quickly became intuitive. I had some trouble with getting audio along with the video but this looks to be an issue with Windows and not the device (works fine with non-Microsoft video players and editors).

4K, Accessories, and Features are plentiful for a low price!
I have a small YouTube channel that started 9 months ago with a Yi Lite action camera. From that statement you should be able to tell that I'm cheap and I shied away from spending many hundreds on a camera for a channel that may never go any where. After I lost days of audio on the Yi camera when it disabled the mic for some unknown reason, I knew I needed to change cameras. That's when I bought my first V50X. Yes, my first. I now have 2 V50X cameras and use both to capture multiple camera angles for my videos. Do that with Go Pro cameras and you'd go broke. I added the Akaso external mic and that's when my video quality improved to the point that my viewers made comments about the improved audio. That's a great feature of the V50X is its ability to use the external mic, although so far I've only been able to get the Akaso microphone to work. Still, most all other cameras at this price don't offer anything but their internal mics and that limits many recording situations as far as quality audio goes. The video quality on the V50X is outstanding and the image stabilization is top notch. I accidentally disabled the image stabilization feature recently and the video was difficult to watch with lot of movement. With stabilization turned on, videos are smooth and even walking can look great. I barely use my Gimbal anymore because of how buttery smooth the recordings are using the V50X. The accessory set that the V50X comes with is great especially the dual batteries, battery charger and the waterproof case. All in all, this camera is an excellent value for the low cost and I recommend it to other vloggers. UPDATE: It's now September of 2020 and I've been successfully using my 2 Akaso V50X cameras to film all of my Youtube videos. My channel has modestly grown and one of the reasons for its success is that my video & audio quality improved once I started using the Akaso cameras. The biggest part of that improvement was the external microphone that the V50X uses - Youtube viewers will tell you that the audio is more important than the video and I believe that! If you want to shoot 1080P at high frame rates (up to 90fps) or 4K video and you don't want to spend the high prices on GoPro cameras, the Akaso V50X is for you. After many months of use, I would recommend this camera to everyone!

Akaso V50X - An awesome action cam at a great price * Updated
I had been considering buying an action camera for a few years, but really couldn’t justify the expense of a new GoPro. After researching the available clones, I purchased an Akaso V50X a little over a week ago. I have not been disappointed. The camera feels and looks very well made. It comes with a number of accessories, including a waterproof case, mounting adapters, a wrist remote, and a pair of 1350 mAh batteries with a charger that can charge both at the same time. As long as you have, or buy a micro sd card, you can get started using the V50X as soon as you open the package. It’s pretty easy to figure out how to use by poking around with the menus and using the online pdf manual. The video quality has really impressed me and that’s really what it’s all about. I have only shot in 4k at 30 frames per second, so can’t speak about other resolutions. At this point I don’t really see a reason to shoot at lower resolutions. The only issue I’ve had with the video is a bit of chromatic aberration that shows up as magenta fringing in some lighting situations, but I’ve found that I can easily remove this with editing software. Image stabilization appears to work well and the gyroscope setting really makes videos appear to have been shot with the camera mounted on a gimbal. The touch screen works great and is pretty intuitive. Touch is not available while the camera is in the waterproof case, but the physical buttons work fine to control operations. As others have pointed out, the sound recording volume leaves a bit to be desired. As I’ll generally be using the camera in the waterproof case, the built in mic wouldn’t be picking up much anyway. I see that there is now an external mic available for the V50X, so at some point I may pick one up for out of case use. I’ve tried all of the smart phone apps that are supposed to be compatible with the V50X and have not been able to get any of them to work. At best they start up and then just freeze. It would be nice to have the option of controlling the camera with a smart phone, but not having this is not a game changer for me. The camera works great using the physical buttons, the touch screen, and the wrist remote, all of which I find much more useful. A number of the reviewers have mentioned that they were disappointed that the highest resolution available for still photography is 12 megapixels, but my resolution menu shows up to 20 mp. As I generally travel with a couple of DSLR’s, I don’t really expect to be using the V50X for a great deal of photography. As a note, when I purchased the camera I also bought a SanDisc 128 GB Micro SD card (SanDisk 128GB Extreme microSDXC UHS-I Memory Card with Adapter - C10, U3, V30, 4K, A2, Micro SD - SDSQXA1-128G-GN6MA ). Although the Akaso documentation recommends a 64 GB card, the camera readily recognized the 128 GB card and can access the full storage. I am very impressed with the Akaso V50X. I seriously doubt that you could find an under $100 action cam that has as many features and works as well. So far I am very happy with my choice. Pros: Video quality The abundance of included accessories The variety of image capture modes Image stabilization/Gyroscope Under $100 Cons: (see update) Audio recording quality Unusable smart phone apps * UPDATE: I finally got to put the V50X through a real test. My first day back on snow wound up being a storm day. I was actually working (some jobs are a bit more fun than others), so just clipped the camera to my radio chest pack and used it on every run. - The camera performed great, stayed dry in it's case, and the sound recording was way better than I'd found in my first trials. As that was pretty much the only downside in my initial review, I changed my rating from 4 stars to 5. I can easily live without a smartphone app. - After about 45 minutes of recording in 4K30fps with image stabilization and gyroscope on, the battery level still showed 1/4 of a charge. * Hint: You can pick up a package of assorted length wire fishing leaders for a couple of dollars and make leashes to work for any mounting situation. - I am completely happy having chosen this awesome action cam.

A good value but...
...it could have been better. Considering its price point compared to that of the overpriced flagship brand, it is a good value. Picture quality and image stabilization is very good. It comes with a lot of accessories which only adds to its value. What could make it better (or even be one of the best)? The internal microphone for starters. Recorded audio sounds muffled and somewhat distorted; almost as if the camera was enclosed and sealed in its waterproof case even though it was not (I could only imagine what it sounds like with it actually on). I am hoping that Akaso could improved on it by tweaking the firmware or something to that effect. However, if it is a hardware or component issue/limitation, then I doubt if it can be improved upon. Having a proprietary-ish external microphone interface (Micro USB instead of the standard 3.5 mm audio jack) does not help either as it limits and deprives the Akaso V50X Action Camera of the multitude of high-quality aftermarket audio devices. Furthermore, plugging an external microphone into the camera's only Micro USB port handicaps it even further as its battery could no longer be charged on-the-go while recording/shooting. Personally, I prefer to not use an external microphone or any attachment whatsoever for that matter. It is an "Action Camera" after all and should be unencumbered and streamlined...ready for action. I don't understand why it does not have a cover for the Micro SD card slot and the connection ports like other action cameras have. Such seemingly trivial cheap little piece of plastic/rubber is significant, most especially for action cams. I have not gone underwater with its waterproof case yet so I cannot rate this functionality. The "Akaso Go" app (renamed from "Akaso" a couple of updates ago) is almost useless. I believe its best use case is as a remote live preview device or monitor using a mobile device connected via WiFi but it fails miserably at this. When WiFi connection is established, the on-camera and the remote control record buttons do not work anymore; recording can only be started on the app which has an option to manually switch between portrait and landscape mode. However, the app record button is only available in portrait mode (small preview window across the width of the phone) but once recording has started, swithching to landscape mode (large preview window across the length of the phone which is ideal) is no longer possible. I emailed Akaso about this issue two months ago right after I got the V50X. A couple of updates and an app name-change since then did not fix it. So it is four stars out of five but I have to drop a star for the buggy app.
