My pack actually has a compartment for a bear box (it's a sleeping bag compartment that just happens to fit a bulky bear box perfectly). Most packs, however, have no such luxury. This case allows you to strap on the bear box externally for easy access when stopping for lunch/snacks/etc. It also has the added bonus of being BRIGHT ORANGE, so if you drink a little too much the night before and forget where you put your bear box, it's hard to miss.I've never bothered tying my bear box into a tree, but you could do that with your box if you have this case.
