Kids measuring device - blue/yellow - US sizes…

This arrived a bit earlier which was nice. The device is sturdy and well made, and looks nice. I learned a lot about measuring a child's foot (or even an adult's foot) correctly in order to be able to purchase the right shoe size. I feel very confident that I will be much more successful in buying shoes for my grandchildren - just looking at their feet, it looks like they would wear the same size, but after reading the directions and explanation that came with the measuring device, I did measure both children and found to my surprise that they definitely do not wear the same size. I thought these were only available to stores that sold shoes, so I was very happily surprised to find this was available for home use. I recommend it especially if you have small children and can use it for several years. Mine are 4 and 6 but wear the same size in clothing and, as I said, just looking at their feet side-by-side, it looked like they should wear the same size shoe; now I know better!!

I'll admit that I have a hard time feeling if my kid's toes are near the end of their shoes, so measuring them seems to be the only way I can get a good idea if they have outgrown their shoes or not. At the same time, I sometimes feel pressured to buy shoes if I take them into a children's shoe store to get measured. This tool allows me to easily measure their feet before we head out to the store in order to make sure that they haven't grown overnight on me. In order to get a truly accurate fit, it's more than just looking at the line where their longest toe ends up. There is also a device that you slide to the "ball" of the foot (behind the toes) that also gives a measurement - sometimes they aren't the same. Despite that, and the slide on the opposite side to determine the foot width, it's easy to use and for the $$ spent, I feel a bit better about being able to tell on my own if the kids need new shoes or not. It is made of plastic (so it's lightweight) but I also have to make sure that my 4 year old doesn't get his hands on it and start playing with it. It's not flimsy, but it's certainly not as durable as the metal ones that you often see in a shoe store.

I'm glad I finally purchased this -- in fact, I should have bought this a few years ago! I knew we really should have one of these because I like to get shoes for my daughter online as our favorite brands aren't always carried in stores around here. After reading all the reviews for this plastic one and the metal one, I almost paid the $10 more for the metal one. After all, I didn't want to pay this much and have it snap in half after the first use. But I have to say, it's a thick plastic -- very sturdy. And the movable parts are connected with metal, so they move very smoothly. This doesn't feel like a cheap plastic "toy" or anything like that. I think the reviewers who said this is cheap plastic are only saying that because they were expecting metal. I am planning to take good care of this, just in case (put away from small hands immediately after use) but I really don't think it's fragile at all. Now, should it be priced like it is? Well, no. I feel like a price of $30 would be more fair, but it doesn't seem we have another choice. So I've taken away a star for the price. But it is a high-quality item, and I'm confident it will help me make better size choices for my daughter's feet. In fact, on the very first measurement I had an "aha" moment, "Oh! Your feet are now WIDE!" So I highly recommend this item for anyone who buys their kids shoes online. And yes, you can safely save the $10 and get the plastic one.

I have 2 children that I planned to use this for - I should've bought this long ago. Its so convenient to be able to measure my children's feet at home! I shop online as much as possible to save time (time is at a premium at my house). You can use it to measure both left & right - but additionally it can be used to measure the width of your child's foot. It comes with directions for how to correctly use it, as many store employees do it incorrectly. FYI - This device is made of plastic, not metal. It is sturdy, good quality plastic and I'm sure it will last well beyond the time I'll need it.

This was a bit spendy but has already been worth it. It is so hard to tell if a toddler is comfortable with their shoes and their feet tend to grow in spurts. Our feet need to last us a lifetime, so I bought this for my son and daughter-in-law to measure their child's feet and I would know what size to send. They are using it and buying her shoes they now know will fit her and not give her blisters. It measures width and arch as well. This device is good through the range of child sizes and will last for years.
