Product Description 2019 Oscar Shortlist-Best Foreign Language Film The origins of the Colombian drug trade, as seen through eyes of an indigenous Wayuu family that becomes involved in the booming business of selling marijuana to American youth in the 1970s. When greed, passion and honor collide, a fratricidal war breaks out and puts their lives, culture and ancestral traditions at stake. Official Selection: Toronto Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival. Review Birds of Passage earns the label epic for its tale about how the world changes, about how individual actions and the forces of fate work in concert to bring glory and ruin to a hero and his family. Critic's Pick. --The New York TimesLiterary elements are skillfully woven into the script by Maria Camila Arias and Jacques Toulemonde, which starts off in a world that may be poor and disadvantaged in many ways but that also has traditions of sustaining simplicity and integrity. The screenwriters way of describing this world s fall from grace due to the lures of money and luxury has the power and inevitability of classic tragedy. It could be Greek or Shakespearean, though it is palpably modern and Colombian. --Roger Ebert.comA drug epic like you've never seen before...erupts with color. No subtitles in spanish. A waste of a movie!
So I bought this movie for my parents thinking that the entire movie was in Spanish, but after watching the first few minutes that didn't turn out to be the case. The subtitles for this movie is only available in English and so my parents can't understand the dialog of the indigenous tribe members. DON'T BUY THIS MOVIE UNTIL THIS IS ADDRESS! This is crazy and beyond STUPID that the film makers wouldn't considered subtitles for the Hispanic audience. I really want my money back! this is garbage!

Only English subtitles. Not happy.
I canât believe that the dvd does not have the choice for Spanish subtitles. The indiginous dialogue is subtitled in English. My husband cannot read them. A bit furious

INTERESTING LOOK AT BOLIVIA INDIANS
Great photography of Bolivia or Chile, some areas a bleek desert, some a rich jungle.... Indians struggling to defend their customs from modern society and the drug trade... characterization was excellent, the mother was stellar as the tribal leader, the daughter very pretty desired by various men... coming of age.... "You insult me when you speak Spanish, speak our native tongue." Is family everything or is the drug trade and the dollar more tempting. Some people find out the hard way.... a realistic movie, you won't be entertained... no car chases, but it leaves you thinking..

Thought-provoking, of course. Stay for the intrigue.
This was just a good movie. Most films in theaters these days are action-packed with a bit of substance to make you think about something "significant" for maybe a day or week or so. This movie was also action-packed, but each scene also delivered important information for you to realize what was moving forward in the plot and also what skill the videographer has...This questions left by this film will remain with me for quite some time. It was long, but each scene was important. In twilight acts, it seemed to lose focus of protagonists and such, but in a film like this, the plot/themes are more important. I'd recommend.

Epic of a movie
I think the movie summary does a good job of explaining the storyline/plot. Film is well paced, beautifully shot and engaging , if not gripping. It is violent as any story of drug trade and "fracticide" would be. Not gratuitously. I was interested in the "other side" of the drug story in this part of the world--- Native Wayuu of the area and the impact of the drug trade during the 70s, 80s.Well done movie. Highly recommend!

A most pretentious review.
This movie isnât for everyone but for the few people who can tolerate the beautiful slowness of the pace and can enjoy the painterly cinematography, this is an intimate look into the lives of the Wayuu clan and their involvement in the Colombian drug trade war of the 70âs and 80âs.

Weird and distorted view of Colombia
It was very disappointing. It unjustly shows partying Peace Corp volunteers inspiring the marijuana trade to the indigenous people of coastal Colombia. That's just the opposite of what these dedicated volunteers do. Then it denigrates the indigenous people by showing them violently fighting among themselves for petty revenge. This movie harms good people for crass commercial gain. None of the characters or the plot are well developed. It is a piece of trash.

ASTOUNDING
This movie was so exceptional I had to get the Blu-Ray version of it. And the colors and videography via Blue_ray are definitely worth it. Lest I mention the story line is a sensitive portrait on how the narcotics trade can disturb /uproot communities.
