Which means I'm having to read and digest (ha ha) this textbook at the speed of light. The good news is, this textbook is extremely well laid out. The text gives you a short 5-question pre-quiz before you start a chapter, to test how much you THINK you know about nutrition. Then it gives you some chapter objectives and tells you where those objectives are covered in the text. The textbook is extremely packed with information and is not light reading. But they break the chapters down into headings and subheadings, and recap every section in a clear and easy to understand way. The chapters are followed by math examples to help you calculate nutrition needs, a review summary and additional test questions and case profiles. There are a lot of graphics and charts inside that also help you to understand the material. But don't think you can read the summaries and skate by with the text. At least not if you're new to the sciences and nutrition. In addition to digestion basics (which are extremely complex) they cover a lot of ancillary areas, such as diseases affecting the GI tract and those diseases that are contributed to by poor nutrition. I rented the textbook but think I will buy because I think it will be a helpful resource down the road as well since I have at least 2 more nutrition courses I'm required to take. Not light reading by any stretch, but a rock-solid text.
