Al Arz tahini 12 pack (12 pack)

I have never actually had this this tehina/tahini before, so it might be surprising that I bought a 12-pack. But I did so specifically to support the company since it recently took a very brave stand on a particular issue and is facing severe backlash from many (both sellers and consumers) in its primary market. What is the issue? Recently the company, which is located in Nazareth (an Arab town in Israel), agreed to financially support a new LGBTQ emergency hotline specifically for the Arab population. As many people know, Israel is considered quite progressive on LGBTQ issues, reflecting widespread attitudes among Jewish Israelis. But among Arab Israelis (as in the wider Arab and/or Muslim world), there is still a lot of severe hatred. So this decision to support a hotline was seen as a big no-no by many, who are now moving to boycott the company. Shopkeepers are quoted as saying "no one wants to buy tahini that supports gay people." This has been widely covered locally in Israel, and I was a bit surprised to disover the story has even found its way into the New York Times. (I can’t post the links here, but it’s easy to google.) ************************************ But...what about the tahini? I wanted to support the company, but of course also wanted the tahini to be good! I live in NYC (Jackson Heights, Queens). There are various tahinis here, but never the ones that I've most wanted. I have known for years that El Karawan and HaYona are brands considered by many to be top favorites, but not easily available in the US, at least not at a price that is affordable for someone who is not rich but wants to make/eat hummus frequently. In my recent research, I discovered that Al Arz is also a respected and popular brand, often mentioned alongside Karawan and Yona. In addition, none other than Yotam Ottolenghi mentions it as a favorite and sells it himself. So, that’s why i’m giving it 5 stars, even though i haven’t personally tasted it. Very much looking forward to its arrival next week. Congratulations to the company on taking a brave and forward-thinking stand. — From: a fairly liberal, straight, American Jew, a Zionist who supports Israel and peace and progress for all. ************************************ update, 7/22/20, after receiving: I received the tahini a bit earlier than expected and proceeded to make my first batch of hummus with it. Happy to say it did not disappoint my hopes and expectations! I found the tahini to be a little lighter and sweeter (no bitterness) compared to the tahini brand i had been using previously (Beirut). Somewhat paradoxically, this difference seemed even more pronounced in the hummus (as the tahini paste is incorporated into it) than in the tahini sauce (which is made separately and goes on top). Packaging/shipping was excellent, with absolutely zero leakage. Maybe this is easier to achieve with a multi-pack than single jars, since the larger package may be less likely to travel on its side or upside down. In any case, each jar has a well-sealed seal under the lid. Expiration date is a bit over a year from date of purchase.

I am from a middle eastern origin and been eating plenty of tahini all my life. This is one of the best tahini on the market, produced in a family-owned small business in Israel, following a very long tradition of tahini making. My only issue is the price - Used to be around $4/container RECIPE: Before starting make sure you mix stir the tahini very well. It tends to sink to the bottom, so you need to use either a non-pointed knife or long spoon to scrap everything from the bottom. Keep mixing until all hard pieces dissolved, and you can see a smooth unified texture. Now you can pour some to your mixing bowl..... Ingredients: 1/2 Container raw tahini (250 g) 1/2 Fresh Lemon (squeezed) 1 Fresh Garlic Clove (Minced) 1/2 cup of cold water salt to taste Mix all ingredients in a large bowl, EXCEP THE WATER, and start mixing with a spoon A thick paste will start to form. Ad about 1/4 cup water and keep steering to integrate the water into the paste. At some point the paste will start whitening which is a good sign that you are getting close to the desired consistency. Keep adding water and mixing until you get a consistency similar to mayonnaise or ketchup. This is when you get the best taste. Some people like it waterier but in my opinion, it loses flavor and intensity if you over water it. Correct with more salt if needed and enjoy it. Please Note: The tahini you just made will thicken in the refrigerator. If you must, add 1 Tbsp of water and mix it but I like it the way it is.

I recently gave Al Arz tahini a try. I committed to a 12 pack--since it was a good deal. It was a bit of a risk---but it paid off. I read the reviews and was persuaded that this company was worth a shot. The product is superior---it has a clean taste, doesn't need a lot of stirring, and is smooth and rich in feel and taste. It's "liquid gold" as far as I'm concerned. I use this tahini to make hummus and my regular recipe tasted better with Al Arz than with the brand I was previously using (also from the same region). I'm glad to support Al Arz and I will be buying my next box of tahini from them again in the future.

Our family eats a lot of tehina (tahini), so we buy in bulk. When in Israel/Palestine this is the brand we use, it's owned by a Palestinian family. The tahini is smooth, flavourful (but not bitter), and is perfect in all recipes from the savoury to sweet (we even make our chocolate chip cookies with tahini!) I've been asked by friends why our tahini sauce / hummus tastes so good, and Al Arz is the reason. The stuff you find in most American grocery stores is bitter and has a gritty texture, this is the real deal. The tahini does separate a bit in shipping, but once I stir (using a butter knife) upon opening the jar, it stays pretty well-mixed until we finish the jar. We store at room temperature - it sits on our counter next to the toaster for breakfast each day (a piece of bread with this tehina, a heavy sprinkling of za'atar, and sliced tomatoes is a great easy breakfast!). I highly recommend this brand.

Just the right consistency Amazing taste Fresh and sooo smooth It tastes great both right out of the box, or when mixed into Hummus or made with lemon juice and garlic for Tahini.

I order pack of 12 every 40 days (we eat 3 times a day) It's by far the best one , why? #1.Smother then any thini on the market (I tried so many) #2.A good thini comes like you see on the picture I add #3. Made in the capital of thini (Israel) And to make it you just need to add lemon, garlic salt and mix it all with water Bon appetite 😋

It's the 2nd time I ordered this product and both times package was damaged with some boxes leaking and making a mess all over the box

This is the best tehina, period. I don’t live somewhere close to where I can buy it locally and I love that I can get it in bulk at a decent price. It arrived in a big box, pretty quickly, and in good condition. I’ve ordered now a couple times from this seller.
