Apparently they were in the process of moving, and my item had been improperly stored. I am raising my rating to 5 stars for excellent customer service, and a well designed product (which I didn't get a chance to use, but was able to inspect, and it is a quality item, good design, and will be MUCH more convenient to use than an airlock for fermentation. When my 3 Boss Pickler Silicone Valves arrived, I opened the plastic bag and they smelled like cigarette smoke. Yuck. I tried washing one of them, twice, but it didn't get rid of the smoky odor.I will be returning them and will try to get a replacement set, and hopefully those won't smell like smoke. Looks good so far. Easy installation, seems like it is airtight. Using it on 5L of sauerkraut. I wanted to try this one due to the water-filled airlocks getting moldy when I put one in my basement for storage. I have a really old house with a dirt basement. The food was fine, but it was a little disconcerting to see dark mold in the airlock when I brought it up after several weeks.I am hoping that this one will be what I am looking for to make fermenting even more of a no-brainer than it is already.
