Carson Dellosa 102 Basic Sight Words Flash Cards Kindergarten, Flashcards for Kids Ages 6 and Up, Phonics and Vocabulary Kindergarten Learning Activities Review: Great for practice - Love these cards for my kids! The word plus sentence is great for all ages learning to read and gain fluency. Review: Carson Dellosa vs Star Right Education: A comparative review - You'll learn from the school of hard knocks that when it comes to sight words there is no universal yardstick that standardizes what maybe considered a one set collective of sight word. I use broad strokes to say this because when you get down to the minutia of individual words then you may see some commonality. Thus you will see that sight words from one school to another will have some differences. And this applies same for those making/selling the flash cards. I recently purchased the Star Right Education (SRE) Flash cards for sight words to make up for the deficit I found in the Carson Dellosa equivalent. When I say deficit, I'm referencing the 44 sight words that form my child's Kindergarten curriculum for the year (see photos). Before I get to that, let me talk about the Carson Dellosa Flash Cards. APPEARANCE: Nicely made cards. No Fluff. Words are easy to see and read. At the back is a simple one line sentence for the child to try -- using the word he/she tried to pronounce. WORD COUNT: 102 Sight words. This is huge and in theory should cover what you are looking for at the 6+ year old level. DURABILITY: If handled well, it will serve you for a long time. But would so even more had they been laminated. PRICE: One of the best priced in the market. How does it compare with the Star Right Education (SRE) Flash cards? Well, for starters SRE has 67 more words than the Carson Dellosa which has 102 words. But the Carson Dellosa comes with a supplemental card that alphabetically lists out all 102 cards that come in the pack. SRE does not seem to have this. How does it compare with my child's curriculum? Well, it has most of the words except for three: GOT, HIS and HIM aren't there. So, I guess by inference, they do not consider them as sight words (so you can see why I said sight words are a subjective notion that will vary from school to school). The SRE flash cards had just GOT missing. How does the Carson Dellosa compare to SRE price wise? Well, it knocks it outta the park. Coming in at half the price of the SRE cards. FINAL NOTE: The Flash cards should've come laminated to guarantee durability. I wouldn't mind paying a buck more just to have them come laminated. OVERALL IMPRESSION: I'll give this a 4 1/2 stars.Factoring in the low price of $7.99. To make up for the missing words, I simply cut out an 3 index cards to size and filled in the words.. Hope you found this review helpful.

Wonderful.
Taught my 4 year old son to read using these and the next set they have. I like that font is simple, and clear and that there are no distracting pictures. The sentences on the back underline the word on the card and use other sight words to help enforce words you have already learned or are learning. The one rounded corner is really convenient as well. It makes it so much easier to make sure all of the cards are going the right way. To use these I went through the deck and pulled out words that are most commonly used and necessary for reading sentences first. I tried to sort the decks into groups of 10-30. Doing the whole deck at once would have been overwhelming. I first picked words like: I, A, The, Can, He, She, It, Run. As he got the hang of those, we'd move on. Between this and the other deck, it didn't take long for him to be reading. Once he had a basis for sight words we introduced phonics. I noticed there were some words he consistently had issues with: There, Them, Had, Has, They, etc. So I got a large white board and started writing him hand tailored stories. I would stick words he was struggling with in the stories over and over and over again. As soon as he was reading one story well, I'd erase it and write new ones. I also used that opportunity to write about upcoming events and life lessons. He's a little social awkward, so I'd write about going camping, making friends, starting school, etc. I've found that has not only helped his reading skills, but his social skills as well.

Great purchase
Great flash cards, the 4 blank cards startled me but when I read the back of the box its for creating my own flash cards.

Simply Flash Cards - - But Simply Great
These cards have been extremely helpful for our 3 year old. Before he turned 3 he knew all of his capital and lower case letters and knew how to pronounce them. We figured that it was time to move to sight words. These flash cards are great for a number of reasons. 1) The words are some of the most common used and seen 2) There are short sentences on the back of each word using other words in the pack where he can read his own sentences. 3) The flash cards are made with a very durable thickness 4) It's been demonstrated that this type of "sight word reading" is very effective and we're seeing it right before our eyes Yes, they are just flash cards - and you can make your own - but I'd rather spend $8 and save an hour or two writing words and sentences. It is so fun watching our 3 year old son read 6 and 7 word sentences and feel very proud of himself.

I can work with these
I enjoy these and they are really helping my kids with learning the basics, I'd prefer if they were a little bigger but I work it what I got. Not much I can say about them but they are as advertised, basic words and pictures to identify them. Good choice if you want to teach kids the basics of beginner words.

I've ordered three or four different sets of sight word flash cards and have been disappointed with all of them. Either the cards themselves were flimsy or too thick, or they were unsuitable for review because each card had two different words on them. This set got it perfect! The cards are not too thick, but they aren't flimsy either. There is one sight word per card. On the back of each card is a sentence that puts the sight word into context. This is a great way to practice sight word recognition AND develop contextual reading skills. If I were going to complain at all, it would be to say that the suggested age range of 6 years old and up is not even close to appropriate. My daughter needed to know most of these sight words *before* kindergarten started. She began studying them when she was 4. Now she's learned them all and my son is starting them this term - he is 3. So I would say this is a good beginner's set, not suitable for older than 4, or 5 at the latest.
