## Description

Product description THE UNRIVALED INDUSTRY STANDARD FOR OVER 20 YEARS WHY CHOOSE A 20-YEAR LEGACY? BECAUSE GENERIC KITS HAVEN'T EARNED YOUR TRUST. In the crowded desertcart marketplace, new products launch every minute. Very few survive. Our Katana Maintenance Kit is one of the rare survivors. For more than 20 years, it has held its position as the industry benchmark. This longevity isn't accidental. It’s the result of one simple truth: It works. Don't gamble your high-carbon steel sword—an investment of time, money, and respect—on a "new listing" from an unproven seller. Those new kits are often assembled with generic, mass-produced oil and coarse papers. Ours is a specialized kit whose components are defined by a generation of verified performance. When you buy from us, you’re not testing a new product. You're buying the definitive answer to sword preservation. The Power of Time 20+ Years of Positive Feedback: Thousands of martial artists cannot be wrong. Fixed Formula: We do not cut corners. Our materials are the same premium grade as they were in 2006. Immediate Reliability: Open the box and use it with total confidence. You are using the standard. Preserve the Legacy of Your Blade Owning a traditional Japanese sword is an honor, but it requires dedicated care to maintain its beauty, sharpness, and integrity over time. The Ace Martial Arts Supply Japanese Samurai Katana Sword Maintenance Cleaning Kit provides everything you need to clean, polish, and protect your carbon steel blades. Whether you are a dedicated martial artist, a collector, or an enthusiast, this kit ensures your katana remains in pristine, battle-ready condition for generations to come. Traditional Tools for Authentic Care Choji Oil for Protection Specially formulated mineral oil mixed with clove oil. It creates a protective barrier on the high-carbon steel, preventing moisture buildup, oxidation, and rust from damaging your blade. Uchiko Powder Ball A traditional silk ball filled with finely ground polishing powder. Gently tapping this on the blade absorbs old oil and impurities, polishing the steel without scratching the delicate surface. Mekugi-Nuki Brass Hammer An essential tool for safely dismantling your sword. The small brass hammer and awl allow you to carefully remove the bamboo pegs (mekugi) from the handle (tsuka) for deep cleaning and inspection. Prevent Rust and Maintain Perfection High-carbon steel katanas are highly susceptible to rust if touched by bare hands or exposed to ambient humidity. Routine maintenance is non-negotiable. This kit includes premium Nuguigami (cleaning paper) designed to wipe away old oil, debris, and uchiko powder without leaving lint or scratches. By following the traditional cleaning ritual—wiping, powdering, wiping again, and re-oiling—you actively prevent pitting and keep the blade's hamon (temper line) visible and striking. Futokoro-gami Sword Maintenance Samurai sometimes held a piece of paper, often called kaishi or futokoro-gami , in their mouth or hands while cleaning or inspecting a sword . This practice, primarily used when caring for valuable, antique blades, aimed to prevent moisture from the breath or saliva from landing on the metal, preventing rust. Purpose and Context Preventing Damage: Moisture from a person's breath can condense on the blade, creating rust on the delicate steel. Respect for the Blade: Beyond maintenance, holding paper in the mouth was a mark of respect for the sword as an object of art and history. Usage Context: While often seen in movies or demonstrations as a dramatic flourish, it is a practical measure for preserving high-value, aging, or historic swords. Note: In traditional maintenance, a special paper called nuguigami is typically used, while for cleaning during combat or travel, a samurai might use kaishi paper or their sleeve to wipe the blade. Everything You Need in One Elegant Kit Store your maintenance tools in the included traditional carved wooden display box, keeping your gear organized and ready for your next cleaning session. Complete Kit Includes 1x Bottle of Choji Oil: Essential rust prevention. 1x Uchiko Ball: Fine polishing powder. 1x Mekugi-nuki: Solid brass hammer and awl for peg removal. 1x Pack of Nuguigami: Traditional lint-free rice paper. 1x Wooden Storage Box: Authentic, lightweight wooden box for safe storage.

Review: Very Nice Cleaning Kit - Im glad I bought this, because it is essential to anyone who owns a sword (that isnt made from stainless steel or aluminium of course). Keep in mind that while this is a Japanese style cleaning kit, you dont have to use it only on Japanese style blades. It will still work very nicely on other swords, knives, etc. Metal is metal. If your blade is already rusting, this kit will not help you. It only prevents the rust from forming in the first place. Included in this kit is everything the description says it does. Not only that, but it also has 2 spare bamboo mekugi pins and a mekuginuki (tiny hammer) for removing and putting in the mekugi pins for a Japanese sword. The top of the hammer can be unscrewed to act as a stake to help remove the pins. The powder should last a good while, but the oil comes in a very small bottle which wont last long, especially if you clean your swords frequently. It also has only 2 rice paper cloths, but they can be cut in half to make 4. This isnt a huge deal as you can use any soft disposable cloth (like tissues or toilet paper) to wipe the blade and apply the oil. The box is made out of a soft wood, but still in good condition. It did not arrive damaged in any way, nor was the kanji writing on the lid damaged or faded. Since I bought this for what was inside, the outside aesthetics dont really concern me all that much anyway. Overall, im satisfied with this purchase and I do recommend it. I am giving it a full 5 stars because it is for what it should be. My only complaint is the tiny oil bottle, but seeing as how you shouldnt be drenching your blade in oil, it's size is acceptable for someone who doesnt clean their blade frequently. The box could fit a bottle twice it's size, but whatever. After I used it all, I bought some mineral oil and its working just as well. My point is, dont buy this kit exclusively for the cleaning oil because there isnt much of it. For nearly $5 (when I bought it), id say this cleaning kit is defenatly worth the price.
Review: Cheap and effective - This kit was much smaller than I expected, but that is not a bad thing. Everything described in the listing is in here. The mekugi-nuki (small hammer), two bamboo mekugi pins, an uchiko ball, sword oil, and a cleaning cloth. Each item is small and definitely not top-of-the-line, but I got it for under $10 so I am not complaining! I am glad that this kit contained two mekugi pins. I really needed them for my katana and mekugi can be so hard to find! I have already used the kit to clean my sword and so far there have been no problems. The uchiko ball disperses powder just fine and the cleaning cloth picks up the oil and powder effectively. I also used the mekugi-nuki to replace my mekugi with the two included in the kit. My only complaint is that the wooded box is made of VERY cheap wood. The lid came apart five minutes after I opened it. Nothing a little super-glue couldn't fix! I didn't buy this item for the box, so it doesn't affect my rating at all. Just be aware that if you are buying this for the case it comes in, you will be disappointed. If you are looking for a cheap, yet effective cleaning kit, then this is the item for you!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What is each tool used for and the name?**
A: I don’t know but I can tell you this, watch the old series SHOGUN, this is the same one you will see Lord Targarar using. Get it and go to YouTube for instructions.

**Q: Can you use this on other types of swords not Just Japanese katanas?**
A: Yes. you can use it for any kind of sword Maintenance..

**Q: Can I use it for wooden swords?**
A: Thank you for contacting us. No, absolutely not. This maintenance cleaning Kit is for regular Katana swords and not for wooden swords.

**Q: Does it have anything to remove rust?**
A: Try Mineral Oil or Baby oil & steel wool to remove any rust. Coat liberally well first & let it set depending on how bad it's rusted. Process shouldn't take longer than 24 hrs for the worst of the rusted & salvageable. After letting it sit in the oil for at least 1-2 hrs. Then Steel wool any rust spots litely. As so not see swirls or scratches in the metal or finish. Warning any colored or painted on finishes will show scratches or swirls marks. & once you're finished. Put a lite coat of oil & keep it oiled. Also cleaning with WD-40 will help with rust pervention. But again always coat with mineral oil when storing most blades (especially stainless steel). I hope this was helpful.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Not bad for the money you spend for it
*by W***Y on February 23, 2022*

This isn't a bad sword maintenance kit... but, it could use some improvement. First of all, try looking up "sword maintenance cleaning kit" to get some variety of different kits that are available for sale on Amazon and you'll see that they range from $10 - $30 dollars a kit. Some of them have instructions on how to use the kit while others have less plastic and more glassware. Everything that you need is in this kit from the Mekugi-nuki (brass hammer), rice paper, choji oil, two spare Mekugi pegs to the Uchiko (cloth powder tapper). The first thing I noticed was that the Mekugi-nuki had the head disassembled from the handle. The problem is the wooden box itself. No matter what Tetris moves I made, I could not fit everything in the box with the Mekugi-nuki assembled. The box in the pictures is longer than what you get in person. Also as other people have mentioned, the choji oil is in a plastic bottle (mine was sealed with a plastic tamper seal) and once opened, I fear it will leak in the box. The Uchiko I received was a bit disappointing. In theory, it should last the entire lifetime of your sword. It is filled with a pumice powder of fine stone and supposedly fine metal too. Just touching the cloth with my finger releases a lot of powder. I DEFINITELY need to either use it outside or with newspaper underneath as the powder gets EVERYwhere. Plus, the handle is usually covered in cloth as well but it's just a bare wooden reed. If you're wondering what the little plastic cup with a lid is for, it's for storing your rice paper to keep it dry and clean before you use it. If anything I said so far concerns you, try looking at a different kit here. For the most part, I can continue to use the wooden box it came with but without the choji oil or rice paper inside. I don't think it's a bad kit and certainly isn't bad for a beginner looking to maintain their oriental sword collection. Honestly, pretty much any sword you buy from Amazon should be able to use this kit. If you happen to have an actual Japanese sword (we're talking thousands of dollars, not hundreds), this kit should still be fine to use but then I personally would want to invest in a proper kit that belongs to that sword.
