    Errol Flynn the Magnificent!

*by B***L on Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2009*

I always loved Errol Flynn and I wanted to read his books to learn what kind of writer he was. And to my surprise, I found out what an exceptional great writer he was. Extremely conversational, one can visualize being at the place at the same time. In addition, I also love his other books "My Wicked, Wicked Ways" and "Showdown", which are in every way as entertaining and in many passages I laughed my head off. "What a guy" is all one can say.Errol Flynn was an exceptional writer and what a wonderful command of the English language he had; what a pity he never pursuit this talent of his fully.Beams End is full of wit, action packed and full of youthful bravado.Three adventurers set sail up the east coast of Australia in a sail boat Errol Flynn acquires rather accidentally. He describes a voyage, which would be a true delight to a real hearty sailor. The description of the passage is truly outstanding very realistic and as known he was a great lover, but most of all a lover of the sea.In this book all the characters and descriptions of even to the smallest detail of a plants, scenery, storms, mishaps and ocean life comes vibrantly alive. He was a such multi-talented man, in every instance truly magnificent. There are only very few man born in the world with his looks, caliber, charisma, magnetism, bravado, talent and possibly many other attributes he possibly had. He truly was magnificent - an extremely gifted man!

    Who Can Touch Him?

*by P***D on Reviewed in the United States on July 29, 2015*

A gifted writer, young Errol Flynn puts to print his adventure on the high seas. Clearly, Flynn was first a writer and second a thespian. His adroit vocabulary splashes onto mental canvas all the colours of his daring youth. It flies in the face of the tacky smear-job foisted as his autobiography (*My Wicked Wicked Ways* is a fake and a forgery). No way that Flynn wrote that drivel. *Beam Ends* proves his writer's voice. Incomparable. Inimitable. By the charts we track his course on the Sirocco. His descriptives of the islands along the way prove his path. His scholarly observations of the Great Barrier Reef, the island indigenous and God's glorious creation cement the voyage in hard copy -- the only way to fly. Impossible to falsify. The fibre of the man's character is lain bare for all to read. His admiration of the Dook spells it out. The way the book ends spells it out. I have written that nobody could touch him as an actor. Now I add with gusto that nobody can touch him as a writer either.

A real adventure story by a genuine legend

*by A***Y on Reviewed in the United States on March 30, 2015*

What an absolute legend. I was surprised by how articulate he is as well. Fascinating window into the young life of the man. He wrote it during the front end of his career - I saw a documentary which said he was more proud of this book than the films he had made to date at the time. Certainly makes you believe that it was his true swashbuckling self that gave his performances on the silver screen their authenticity. I haven't read any other books or 'autobiographies' about or by him but I think this one will ring truer than the others. he reflects on the specific adventure (And what an awesome one!) and I think the general tone, considering where he was in his life when he wrote it, reveals a lot about who he really was, better than a ghost written autobiography, covering a longer time frame, could.
