Review: Dexpan is a Game Changer! Way better than SDS-Max Demolition Hammers! - This product is incredible and a must-try! Dexpan demolished 6,000 psi CTS RapidSet 24/6 concrete with ease. The instructions recommend using 1 1/2" holes, but I achieved these results with 1-1/4" and 1" holes. Despite my shortcuts, Dexpan delivered outstanding results! I'm a huge fan of Makita, but their demolition hammers—specifically the Makita HM1203C 20 lb. SDS-MAX Demolition Hammer and the Makita HM1214C 27 lb. SDS-MAX AVT® Demolition Hammer—presented challenges. Although rated at 14 amps, they tripped a 20A circuit breaker. To avoid this, I ensured the demolition hammer was the only tool on the 20A circuit. Using demolition hammers can be labor-intensive, time-consuming, and requires multiple trips to Home Depot to rent the tools, which ate up even more time. For drilling, I used a low-powered Bosch Bulldog Xtreme to create the holes: a 3/4" pilot hole, followed by 1" and occasionally 1 1/4" holes. The instructions advise waiting 24 hours for the stone to cool after drilling, but I sprayed the holes with water to cool them immediately—just enough to darken the walls to a gray shade with a small amount of water pooling at the bottom. I mixed the Dexpan using a DeWalt cordless drill with a $6 paint mixer attachment in a e Home Depot 2 gal. Homer Bucket (RG502HD). The smaller bucket makes it much easier to pour the Dexpan into the holes. A funnel might be needed if you use a 5 gallon bucket. Twelve hours after pouring in the Dexpan, the concrete was shattered—I couldn’t believe it! The best part? The concrete broke into large, solid pieces for easy cleanup, and the Dexpan turned into a fine powder which was easily vacuumed up with a shop vac. I love Makita tools, but Dexpan really is a game changer.
Review: works like stated, i will buy again - directions need to be read and understood, it has a danger to users in hot weather. it expands! that said, the smallest hole i filled was a 3/8 to remove concrete from metal poles so that they could be reused. i also drilled 3/4 holes to break up thin walls for repair to the unit. it works over night in cooler weather, but you will see the start of the fractures in about 8 hours. silent destruction, (apart from the hammer drill) good stuff, experiment and learn how to use before taking on larger projects.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What type of drill is best? i used my bosch 8.5 amp hammer drill with a 1” bit. it lasted 10 minutes and shut down.**
A: I used a rather large hilti drill for mine with a 1.5" bit and even that thing was very hot to the touch after two 16" deep holes. I would do a few then let it cool. I'd say that drill is a good drill for most things but not for a 1" drill that's over 9" long.

**Q: Can you drill smaller than 1.5 inch holes in the concrete? I have a 1 inch drill bit - hence the question.**
A: You can use smaller holes, many clients including our own staff have had much success both with smaller and larger holes, however, the holes need to be closer together, no more than 6" apart and you must allow more time, we cannot guarantee the timing or results if you use anything smaller or bigger. Thank you for the great question!

**Q: I have a boulder 8' wide by 5 ' tall , will this work on it? And how far apart should i drill the wholes**
A: Wow that’s a big rock, mine was 1 1/2 feet tall and 3ft wide. I drilled 1” diameter holes 1 ft deep and 6-8” apart and it worked great over night. It says not to drill all the way through and about 1ft apart in a grid pattern. Good luck.

**Q: Can I just pour it into cracks of the big rocks and not drill holes**
A: I think it would work fine, efficiency would depend on depth and width of the crack versus the size of the rock. You'll need to dam the crack to contain it in the area you want to expand in. It is very runny when mixed and you do need to follow mixing and safety instructions. After the reaction takes place ( a day or so ), the stuff is as inert as limestone so no hazard that I am aware of. The primary ingredient is Slacked Lime & the Romans used it in cracks to break rocks for building roads so the history is extensive. I have some photos of concrete breaking that I did with it and I wish I could share them. Try mail to toymkr at a o l dot c

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This Stuff Really Really Works!
*by J***. on June 15, 2019*

So about a year ago, I get it in my head I really want to remove this boulder in my backyard, I go to Home Depot, rent a huge jack hammer and spent 10 hours straight chipping away at it almost to feel like I was getting nowhere. It turns out it was very hard granite and alas I was defeated, and kind of gave up altogether. Recently I had done some research and came across Dexpan and I must say, I was skeptical. So I ordered a bucket for $39 and luckily my old job let me borrow their combination rotary- jack hammer with an 1 3/8 bit. I had read they recommended 1 1/2 but I figured it couldn't be a big deal. I spent about 7-10 minutes a hole drilling holes 18 inches deep across the boulder about 9 inches apart until I figured I had it pretty much covered and then I watched the Dexpan video one last time. It was very straight forward, even down to the use three water bottles of water for one 11 lb bag. I mixed it all in a 5 gallon bucket and started pouring it in. I filled probably about 16 of the 21 holes I drilled and felt like an idiot because I was on the fence about ordering two buckets but I figured let's see if this works before I order another. I come back about 5 hours later, and I see nothing, no cracks, and now I'm thinking this was a total scam but I had to leave for work anyway so I'm like let's see how it looks in another 8 hours. I can't begin to describe how thrilled I was when I came home from work, there was giant cracks all over the boulder from the holes I had filled and I had to restrain myself from starting to pry at it because it says wait 24 hours. When that time finally did come, I went out there with a san angelo bar, and that boulder just started breaking apart at the seams. I've since ordered a second bucket and as I type this, I have fresh Dexpan in the rest of the holes and I'm waiting for it to break apart what's left of the once impenetrable rock.
