## Description

desertcart.com: Milligram Scale with USB Supply, NEWACALOX Reloading Scale 100 x 0.001g, High Precision Portable Multifunction Lab Powder Scales with Calibration Tare Weights, Tweezers, Weighing Pans Black : Office Products

Review: Excellent accuracy, excellent repetition even on lightweight objects. - I purchased TWO identical scales model 8028 series 100 g capacity in October 2018. Both arrived timely with all listed accessories including two AAA batteries, plastic tweezers, powder / liquid holding cup, 100 g weight. I chose 100 g model so I could check very tiny objects and some postal packages as well. 50g model seemed less attractive to me, even if it might do better job on tiniest objects. Maybe. This scale looks very elegant and professional, it looks as good or even better than some scientific instruments I purchase at work. Considering its price, I hardly can believe it is so accurate as specified. I decided to check accuracy and compare both scales a week later, at typical room temperature and humidity 50%. I check both scales with very little weight, where usually scales do not do well. Both scales stand next to each other, on flat glass table surface. Tiny non-slippery pads work nicely. I use two small pieces of paper as weights, turn ON both scales at a time. Calibrate both scales to 100.000 g with the same 100 g weight, start measuring both pieces of paper positioned always as close to the center as possible. I swap measured objects between both scales, while taking notes - to include any scale circuitry warming up effect if any. I do it slowly, wait about 5 sec each time, hoping to capture some reading changes or fluctuations. Here is what I got, final readings each time: SCALE A. SCALE B 0.013 g 0.013 g 0.014 g. 0.014 g 0.013 g 0.013 g 0.013 g 0.013 g ----------------------- 0.091 g 0.090 g 0.091 g 0.091 g 0.090 g 0.091 g 0.091 g 0.090 g 0.090 g 0.091 g ---------------------- 0.013 g 0.013 g During all measurements there was no reading fluctuation, no reading noise on last digit, no reading changes except a few times final reading after 5sec was 0.001g higher than first, immediate, instant reading. Numbers above show really repetition, not accuracy - still excellent product. SMALLEST WEIGHT that can be detected. I took a small piece of Kleenex tissue. Scale showed 0.013 g. I divided it into two pieces, scale showed 0.005 g and 0.007 g initially, but I could not repeat this. It seemed 0.005 g was not detected most of the time, scale showed 0.000 g. Similar test with a tiny piece removed from a small clear packaging bag resulted in showing -0.003 g. I understood some tiny static forces influenced readings below 0.010 g. At a time, 0.013 g paper is detected very reliably! All this while full range is 100.000 g. Incredible! DISPLAY is rather large, reads nicely and easily in a bright room. Does such scale consume a lot of current? I am thinking how to check on this, as I have many gadgets at home that use batteries too quickly in my opinion. Current consumption for this scale measured gave 8.2 mA, immediately after power ON. With typical AAA battery capacity (Google "AAA battery capacity") rating 1000 mAh it seems battery life should be about 120 hours. I expected little less current consumption, but this is not bad at all - specially considering battery that is not 9V type. Interestingly market is flooded with rechargeable batteries and this scale manual does not say if OK to use rechargeable batteries. I guess no big deal in this case, considering such fact that most rechargeable batteries do not hold charge very long time. AUTO OFF function: When I started calibrating both scales, one scale went OFF after about 30 sec. The other one never did this during entire testing time. I assumed scales go OFF after 30 sec when no activity detected, otherwise they continue working. Overall I am delighted, I never thought I could have such sensitive scale for less than $25. Five stars!
Review: EXCELLENT SCALE - This scale is actually much better than I was expecting for the price: Light weight, easy to use, dustcover built onto the chassis, large easily readable liquid crystal display, auto calibrates and re-calibrates to account for tare very quickly, is repeatably accurate within the advertised tolerances, charges with USB, and comes with a 100g standard to confirm its accuracy prior to use. (You're fooling yourself depending on a scale like this if you don't even have a standard to verify its accuracy.) The only thing I cannot comment on is whether it will continue to operate longterm. Let's keep our fingers crossed! I would recommend this to anyone looking for accuracy, convenience, and low price.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: If weighing a powdery spice that only weighed .001g, would it read it, or is there a min before it would pick it up?**
A: I just got this scale and tested it. It will absolutely NOT weigh 0.001g of anything, despite the readout showing x.xxx g because anything below .01 g usually reads as 0.000 g. It would be more accurate to say this is a 50 x 0.01 g scale. It just shows an extra digit that doesn't relate to actual weight. I calibrated with the 50g calibration mass and it consistently reads that as 50.000 +/- 0.001 g which seems good... BUT if you then put 7 mg on it still reads 0.000 and if you put 10 mg on it reads around 19 mg, so that gives you some idea of the actual precision.

**Q: Does anyone know how to set it for micrograms?**
A: This scale does not measure down to micrograms, it measures down to milligrams.

The microgram (mcg or µg) is the unit of mass in the metric system (SI, International System of Units). 1 microgram (mcg or µg) = 0.000001 grams (g).

The milligram (mg) is the unit of mass in the metric system (SI, International System of Units). 1 milligram (mg) = 0.001 grams (g).

**Q: What is the diameter of the actual circular part of the scale?**
A: 2" diameter

**Q: If I am wanting a scale to weigh old gold jewelry would a 50g or 100g be better?**
A: 100 g because if you have more than 50 grams of gold, you’ll be stuck weighing it 50 grams at a time. As a 50 gram scale will only weigh 50 grams, no more than that. Say you have 83 grams of gold, you’d have to weigh the 50 grams, then the other 33 separately. Where as if you were to get the 100 gram scale you’d be able to with it up all at once. I have the 100 gram scale and I think it’s an excellent scale. I’ll buy it again if mine ever breaks.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Milligram Scale, but DON'T USE THE TARE BUTTON!
*by B***E on August 7, 2023*

The scale itself is perfect, but the user manual is weak and the TARE button is useless (and dangerous). DON'T USE THE TARE BUTTON ON THIS SCALE!! Pros: The impressive range of 0.001 g to 200 g is unique among milligram scales; most only go from 0.001 g to 50 g. That's 4 times the standard range! It's also amazingly accurate throughout this wide range. If you need something more accurate, be prepared to pay HUNDREDS of dollars for a laboratory-grade scale that can measure to the nearest 0.0001 g (nearest 100 mcg). Most people will never need that kind of accuracy, unless you're dumb enough to use fentanyl (in which case you're probably too dumb to use a lab scale in the first place). Cons: The instruction manual is vague on several points. I had to watch the video in the product description in order to properly calibrate the scale, but that's forgivable. The TARE button is an accident waiting to happen (gives both false high and dangerously low readings. Only use the TARE button if the the scale does not show 0.000 with nothing on it -- NEVER use the TARE button for an empty vessel (which is what it's designed for). After doing some research, I found that two other brands of milligram scales have the same issue with the TARE button.
