This tool is sturdy, well made, & takes some getting used to, since you are often turning blind when hollowing a vessel. I tried it on an oak root ball infused with resin using light, sweeping cuts & was pleased with results.

This is the first Carbide Tip turning tool that I have used, all my previous experience has been with HSS tools. With that as a preamble, I can say this tool cuts well, but, for me it is difficult to control. I have tried to use it with green, as well as, seasoned turnings with the same reaults. It cuts cleanly, but, has the tendency to bite in, and run..

Wow! I read some reviews about this hollower and though most of them were negative I thought I would give it a try. What a disappointment this hollower turned out to be. No matter what RPM I tried or how lightly I applied pressure to the cutter, this tool wood twist and gouge the material. And this was on a vessel that was already cut down using a bowl gouge. Simply not a good design due to the fact that it really should be in a ridged slot to keep it from twisting. I've been using a wood lathe for thirty years and I will sometimes try a new tool to see if there are any benefits of that tool over my tried and true tools but this one is definitely not an improvement over the tools I use now!

A nice complement to the other two tools in the set. Works well and the carbide cutter is a definite must. I have made several hollow spheres using a ½" hole and the small cutter does a nice job. The tool is very easy to handle and the side base sits flat on the tool rest. I would not mind if the handle was a bit longer. I definitely would recommend this tool. Go ahead and buy all three if you get a package deal.
