Please tell me the country of origin for this product.

Luckily I still have the user card that came with the Rome #1100 waffle iron.  On the inside it states Rome Industries Inc., 1703 West Detweiller Drive, Peoria, IL 61615.  However on the back of the card it states made in China by Rome Industries Inc.  The iron has a 5 year warranty.  Unfortunately there are not many cast iron waffle irons to choose from.  And although some people are hesitant to buy products made in China, I'm sure that these are made to Rome Industries' standards.  I've had the iron since 2010 and have encountered no problems, plus the waffles turn out fabulous. Mind you, I use my own recipe that uses folded in egg whites, which produce fluffier waffles. I really want to purchase this waffle iron but i'm worried if it's worth it. is it easy to maintain? is it pre season? thanks!

I love using this iron. One thing to note however, the handle is short, so you have to use gloves or pot holders to handle it. Never been a problem for me. You will need to season it first, but once it's seasoned as long as you treat it right, you shouldn't need to season it again.  I'm never going back to the teflon poisonous electric waffle iron again. Hope that helps.

A  tortilla press I bought had a silver-paint finish that peeled in spots and scared me.  Is this a painted finish?

If you still have the waffle iron, use wax or parchment paper on each side. I have a cast iron tortilla press, but I still use parchment paper because it's easier to lift the tortilla and flip it in the pan.

can you use it on an electric hob?

If you are referring to one of these units (http://www.electricgashobs.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/Russell-Hobbs-15199-Electric-Mini-Hob.jpg) I don't see it is working as efficiently as it would over a gas flame.  Could enough heat radiate to properly heat the Waffle Iron.  It will probably take extended length of time to cook and preheat.  I personally don't recommend it but I could be wrong.  Sorry for being indecisive.
