I would sooner get something good first off rather than keep upgrad** A: Great question !!! ABSOLUTELY !!! Many of the features of GTI 2500 make metal detecting so much more enjoyable... While someone with a less expensive device is digging deep holes for trash & has no idea what size or depth their target is, all of this information is readily available to the GTI 2500 user. You will spend less time chasing trash & will know exactly how deep your target is... Many lesser detectors will tell you you have a "hit" but not tell you the size & depth... you could be chasing a large piece of junk & digging & digging until you finally hit it... when my GTI 2500 tells me I have a size 2B at 2 inches (& yes, it actually talks to you) & plays a specific bell tone, I know exactly what coin I'm digging & exactly how deep it is... If your detector doesn't provide accurate depth, size, identifying bell tones & imagining on the screen you could find yourself digging 12" or deeper for a soda can pull tab !!! I hate to sound "picky" but there are times & places I will not even bother digging anything deeper than a couple inches (nice lawns, hard soil, rocky soil, etc.). The GTI 2500 saves me from making such digs when I want to look specifically for coins no deeper than 2", for example !!! I could give you a "million" reasons why a better detector is better for a beginner !!! It's so much easier for a beginner to become discouraged if they are wasting time digging very deep for trash - this will NOT happen with the GTI 2500... Finally, ALWAYS make it a challenge to cover all of your holes so carefully that no one could even tell you had been there !!! **Q: Is the 2500 water proof** A: As loong as you don`t put the actual Detector Head in the water...
