The pens worked as well as expected if not better. Good tool to have for checking substrate pH.Portable device reliable while onsite. Good purchase will explore other portable tools from Amazon.

According to the direction you are suppose to get a result in about 15 seconds if I recall correctly. And you do however in about 2 minute you get a much better result that does not change. All in all I was very please to know that my paint job on the new stucco was good to go.

The pHydrion pH pencil is an effective way to indicate the presence of amine blush, a bond-breaker that forms when exudates combine with carbon-dioxide to produce amonium carbomate. Once amine blush (which typically has a pH of 8-9+) has been detected, water and an environmentally-friendly detergent (Simple Green or Purple Thunder) may be used to remove the blush; or the surface may have to be dry/wet sanded, depending on the product. The surface can then be re-tested until the pH measures below the 8-9 threshold (per the product data sheet/coating specification), at which point the surface can safely be over-coated. I find the pH pencil less effective on rough surfaces, especially bare concrete, where pH strips are still more reliable. Concrete that has been abrasive blasted will chew through the pencil tip and will not leave a clearly discernible line of color on the substrate. I recommend users scan and copy the comparator, then re-size and laminate it. You will have to hold the comparator up to the surface being tested, and the surface will be wet. If you don't laminate the comparator to protect it from moisture (and simple wear and tear; the comparator is made from fairly cheap paper), it will absorb the water and will not last long. TO ENSURE ACCURACY, USE WITH DEIONIZED WATER AND WEAR NITRILE GLOVES

I use the pH pencils in my business, so I can go through them rather quickly sometimes. It's much more cost effective to purchase the 3 pack than to purchase one pencil at a time. The kit comes in a nice box, so I keep the extras in there until it is time for use. Easy twist bottom to raise and lower the pencil, washes easily. Do not wash with hot water--will melt the pencil! Just wipe off with a damp towel. Great purchase!

Works as expected simply draw a good line on plaster and throw deionized water at it wait 30 seconds for color to match up to chart

I used this to test fresh stucco prior to painting. Covered with Sherwin Willians Luxon primer followed by two coats of paint. A week or two later I have blue stains bleeding through the paint.

My company uses to check the ph of stucco before painting. Convenient and easy to use.
