It has length, width, and depth—a length axis, a width axis, and a depth axis. By extending the farthest reaches of the length, width and depth of the body in the upright position, a sense of the three-dimensional space around it is created. We call that reach space around the body the kinesphere. Gravity exerts the downward, earth pull, and with its opposite, upward, skyward pull, the length dimension along a vertical axis in space can be identified. Maintaining that vertical axis, we can also move forward/ backward in the depth dimension along a sagittal axis and we can move limbs to the side or across to the other side in the width dimension along a horizontal axis in space. Each move elicits a particular spatial experience, the feeling of a pull in space that is delineated by its axis.

How fortunate I am to once again have a like-new copy (original was tragically lost) of Irmgard’s marvelous, brilliantly written book. I trained and became certified under her years ago (when, besides teaching, she was also writing this book), & to me she was an intuitive genius. Her book gives credence to her teaching by its amazing breadth and depth of understanding across the field of body movement. I most highly recommend this book as an intriguing introduction to her life’s pioneering work in Labananalysis & Bartenieff Fundamentals.

This book arrived in great condition and in a reasonable amount of time. This was a text I needed for school, so that was much appreciated. Thanks! :)
