I'm also stripping old paint from my home's wood trim. Stuff I've tried for one or both of these two jobs:Prepping metal for welding- wire brush disk (takes too long)- grinding disk (takes off too much metal)- cutting disk (takes off too much metal)- flap disk (doesn't last long)Stripping paint from wood- heat gun (takes too long, risky)- scraper (too hard)- sandpaper (too hard)- foul language (somewhat satisfying, but ultimately ineffective)I figured I'd add these stripping disks to my list of failures, too...Instead, I found they were fast, effective, easy to use, didn't gum up, and took off almost no metal (for wood they're similar to course sandpaper). I started with a half used 3M stripper wheel, but it only did half the bed side before wearing out completely.I bought these in the hope they would work at least as well as the 3M wheels at a fraction of the price. Turns out they cut through the body filler even faster than the 3M wheels. I stripped the rest of the same side and even went back to clean up what the 3M wheel left. After watching a couple YouTube videos that raved about them I decided to give them a try.WOW!!! They are amazing! Dang, I wish I would have had these a couple years ago when I was breaking my back cleaning tons of rust off a huge steel structure, using wire wheels, sanding discs, and grinding wheels.I can't make any claims about how long they last, especially comparing them to any other brand, but so far they seem to be pretty durable. I can, however, say that I've never seen ANYTHING strip paint and rust off steel parts like these things!Just make sure your grinder is up for the heavy DRAG they create. I quickly burned up (flames coming out the cooling vents over the brushes) a cheap old Harbor Freight grinder after about 10 minutes of continuous usage. I subsequently found a great sale on a couple DeWalt grinders and they are totally unfazed by the load over extended periods of time.These don't by any means make grinding wheels or sanding discs obsolete but for specific purposes there's absolutely nothing better!!!
