Handheld USB Barcode Scanner Wired 1D Bar Code Reader for Supermarket, Convenience Store, Warehouse

Purchased to scan the bar codes on the back of gift cards for a church fund-raising application. Purchased two scanners in the event that one eventually failed. Both worked perfectly right out of the box. Very simple set up - just plug in the cable; one end in the scanner - the other end into the USB port of the computer. The software initializes and the scanner is ready to use. I am running Microsoft Word and Excel in a Windows 10 computer, but I think the function is quite universal. Wherever the cursor is positioned, the scanner will enter the value of the bar code followed by a carriage return. The scanner beeps when the bar code read is successful. Before use, I read the instruction booklet, but I didn't need to - the scanner is that simple! Nice design and implementation. I recommend it.

Nothing to set, install or adjust! Just plug in your USB port and start scanning. I tried it commercial barcodes, and specifically in ISBN book numbers. Works perfectly. It scans the number and enters an automatic newline character, so into a text editor like Word, TextPad or Notepad it will create a list with a number on each line. Only remember that if you scan into Excel, the cell has to be formatted as Text for the number to show up correctly. This is not a scanner problem but an Excel setup. Excellent value for the money!

It only does old style bar codes, not QRs but that's what I needed and the price was right!

I have two of these Fangtek scanners that I bought in Oct 2021 and Jan 2022. I've changed settings to use a different suffix and have been happy with the overall reliability. They scan custom CODE-128 barcodes without any trouble, including 2 character barcodes. However, the scanner I bought in July 2022 does not scan the 2 character barcodes. I've read that many scanners deafult to a 3-character miniumum barcode length, but that can often be changed via scanner settings. I can find no similar setting on the Fangtek scanner. I've tried 2-character Code-11 and Code-39 barcodes and still have not been able to successfully scan them. Moreover, it's baffling to me that Fangtek changed the default behavior without a way to revert to the same behavior on the previous two I purchased. 5-stars for value, quick setup, and reliable use of the first two. Minus 1-star since I now need to find a replacement for the third and there isn't any customer support I could find.

I got this unit to read the ISBN barcodes on my book collection. Using this reader with my book database software worked perfectly without any difficulty at all. Simplified the task of logging in almost 2,000 books! Well made and easy to use. Great value and excellent product.
