Great water filter for KitchenAid freezer
Great in line water filter for my KitchenAid freezer. It's good for 20,000 gallons for 5 years even though it says replace yearly. I don't use a lot of ice cubes so I can go the 5 years. Amazon's the only one that carries this type of water filter.

Who doesn't like a good bargain
Who doesn't like a good bargain? I do, you do, we all do so you should like this. This is my third Watts 5 year Filter. I went to Home Depot to buy my latest replacement and they did not carry it anymore. I feared it was not available anymore and was very pleased when I did find it on line and for the same price or close to what I paid three plus years ago. I prefer to replace the filter every three years or so. It does not get heavy usage in our house. It does make Glendale, Arizona water drinkable for me.I still like to chill the water for best flavor but I can drink it without chilling. I use it to make coffee and it is fine to my taste. It is not as good as a three stage reverse osmosis (RO) system but hey it is thirty bucks AND it does not waste water like an RO system and it lasts years. Assuming you already have the setup to use a filter, it is easy to install and all you need to provide are two wrenches or pliers. One warning: In my experience the brass hex nuts that fasten the tubing to the filter need to be tightened more than the instructions say. It says to hand tighten then turn a 1/4 turn with wrench. This is my third filter and it has always leaked at this point. I turn the nuts more until the leaking stops. As with any plumbing I do I watch for leaks for a day or so before feeling confident that all is stable and dry.

Filtered water tastes "refreshing"
We had two kinds of flakes in the water from our fridge: 1) Translucent flakes that floated; and 2) White flakes that sank. Thawed ice-cubes from the ice-maker had both kinds of flakes, and like the water it smelled terrible and was undrinkable. Thinking the translucent flakes may have resulted from bacterial/algal biofilms in the lines and the white flakes were mineral deposits, we changed the filter within the fridge, and ran gallons of water through the new filter. This didn't help - the translucent flakes never disappeared and the white flakes came back 2-3 days. Ice-cubes remained as bad as they were before (here too, I dumped at least 10-15 loads of ice made over 2 weeks). Finally, as a last resort before getting a new fridge, I did the following after unhooking the fridge from the main water line: a) Pump two liters of bleach through the fridge water lines (letting the bleach sit in the line for 20-30 minutes). b) Pump several liters of clean water to flush the bleach. c) Pump two liters of hydrogen peroxide through the fridge water line, letting it sit for 30 minutes. d) Pump 10-20 liters of clean water to flush the peroxide. e) Replaced the filter within the fridge. After reconnecting the main supply line, the water was clean for exactly two days before we started seeing very small white mineral flakes again. After reading the reviews here, I decided to install the Watts filter as a pre-filter. I mounted the filter behind the refrigerator; two problems encountered by other reviewers are that an additional supply-line (connecting hose) or a mounting bracket are not provided with the filter. Supply-lines are readily available - Watts' makes these lines that are available from Amazon. The bracket is more troublesome. I was going to fashion something crude using zip-ties when I found that 2.5 inch conduit hangers were the right diameter to hold the filter. I replaced the bolts/nuts on the conduit hanger with longer bolts/wingnuts to make loosening/tightening easier. All put together (supply line + conduit hangers), it cost about $12 to mount the filter. I've attached photographs to make my descriptions clearer. It has now been a month since the filter has been installed and the neither the water nor the ice from the fridge have flakes of either kind. The water tastes great and is odor-free. Its only been a month, so I cannot comment on the filters longevity, but so far its been great. Update - June 17, 2013 It has been just over a year. Filter is still working very well.

1/3 KDF and 2/3 GAC
Quality filter, but only about 1/4 to 1/3 is KDF media. The rest is granular activated carbon. Gallon rating is great (due to KDF), but only rated for 6 months (!?) Ran mine for about 2 years as a second stage, between a 1-Micron sediment, and a carbon block filter, but will probably cap it at 1 year this time. Had some questionable discoloration in the KDF media when cut open after so long.

Improves Water Taste
I just installed my second one of these filters. I put one in our previous house that was going great after 3 years when we moved, and I left the filter there. The water at our new house tasted heavily of Texas dirt (compliments of Lake Texoma), even after having been through the refrigerator's internal, new filter. So I bought another of these. The total install was about 30 minutes, which included cleaning behind the refrigerator! No leaks. Put the refrigerator back. Ran a couple of gallons through and gave it a taste test. EXCELLENT results! The improvement was exactly what we wanted. When I bought the previous filter in 2018, I remember that it was rated for 5 years. The new one says to replace after 6 months. 20,000 gallons in 6 months?? No way I'm using that much. I'll use this filter until the water starts tasting bad again, which I'm confident will be close to 6 years than 6 months.

Great Tasting and Odorless Water
This filter removed Oder and delivers great tasting water. It takes a little time to modify, at least for my set up, but well worth it.

Great
Filters great. But is a little noisy when water is running through it

Hooked this up to my side-by-side LG fridge/freezer, after about 5 litres of water it cleared up and I've got great tasting water and ice cubes. Does what it says. Filters water.

Works great for a few years under the kitchen sink for purified water.

I used this filter as the final “under counter” filter for the kitchen counter reverse osmosis drinking water system, as the RO unit itself is located in the basement requiring a long tubing run up to the kitchen. This “fix” was simple.

I run a restaurant and I used these filters to replace the very expensive filters on our ice machine and coffee brewing machines. They were very simular to the OEM filters in size, fittings, and quality at a fraction of the price. OEM filters were costing us over $100 each and had to be replaced every six months. At $40 each for 5 years these filters are a great money saver. Even if we have to replace them once a year it's still a bargain. One note to mention, be sure to flush the new filter well, as outline in the installation instructions, as there is alot of what seams like charcoal residue that comes out at first.
