What is the manufacture date on this item? Bought 1 from a different place only to discover it was made 15 years ago and doesnt work.

My dad used this calculator. However, this is not the correct model. The one I have is the Texas Instruments BA-35 battery operated. It is 20 years old. Good thing the last time he used it he took out the batteries so they wouldn't drain. Still works great for me, even as a calculator in high school.

Why does a solar calculator require batteries (this is nowhere near the same as the original model BA-35)?

This is an incredibly valuable tool for education that should be available to all Someone made a decision to limit access by stopping distribution & substitute a more expensive, more complicated model.
