Each end of the cable is firmly secured into the plastic so it creates a permanent loop on the end of the retractor. **Q: Is it heavy?** A: No it is not. The casing is plastic. **Q: Does the small 24" 4oz have a locking button to prevent retracting automatically?** A: From what I can see from the illustrations, looks like the retraction lock is only present in the 48" Large Strap, Carabiner and 36" Xtreme Duty Carabiner. **Q: Hopefully the manufacturer has this info: How much weight can the string hold before something breaks and it falls loose?** A: I wouldn't put more than 5 lbs on it but my guess is it would take 15 to 25 lbs to break it but more than 7 lbs and it won't retract back I believe. These are pure guesses. Ich benutze das Teil seit Jahren täglich. Es hat bisher nie gestreikt, sich etwas verklemmt oder es ging etwas kaputt. Das Schnürlein ist extrem belastbar. Auch wenn sich unbemerkt ein Schlüssel verklemmt und man weitergeht, reist die Schnur nicht einfach ab. Sie hält einen zurück und rollt sich nach dem entklemmen einfach wieder auf - Bestens. Das ist mein zweites Teil, welches ich guten Gewissens verschenken werde.
