I was looking for a New Testament inexpensive enough to hand out to 50 homeless people in camps our church serves. I have long been familiar with this version, and in my opinion it is the best translation to give to anyone who is not familiar with Biblical texts. It avoids words and phrases that are not common in everyday use. For example, it uses "engaged to be married" instead of "betrothed" and "pregnant" instead of "with child". It is said to be on an 8th grade reading level, but I think it would be great for any child in 5th grade and up to read. This edition has maps, introductions to each book, a reading plan, a dictionary of words that are unfamiliar but unavoidable, It notes where parallel scriptures may be found. In short, it has many more features than the average outreach Bible. The print is a smaller font than ideal, but much better than most outreach versions. The pages are not too thin, and there is no bleedthrough of print. The book does not feel flimsy. I wish it included the OT book of Psalms, But at $3 a copy it is well worth it!

The first version I read of the New Testament was GOOD NEWS FOR MODERN MAN was a gift. I thought it was great and have always been very glad that I read it. Over four decades later, when I wanted to share it with two young men, I found it under the name GOOD NEWS (New Testament) and was pleasantly surprised the newer version was even better. It now has a wealth of supporting information and introduction to make it much more readily understood, including maps. This is a superb version and I would recommend it to any one, especially if the reader has had little or no exposure to Jesus Christ. My only regret is the missing drawings that accompanied the original GNMM. They were unique, spiritual and promoted the story so very well.

For a very low price, these paperback New Testaments are perfect for the outdoor food cabinet our Denver church maintains for many homeless people near the Capitol. The Good News Bible is written at an 8th grade reading level and for people who do not speak or read English well, it is accurate and easy to read.

I purchased these for my confirmation class. The ease of the language makes the gospels very accessible to teens. The price point is perfect for purchasing multiple copies to give away, spreading the Word of God. Will definitely be buying again and again.
